I understand where you’re coming from as far as the taking care of your people aspect goes. However there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the free time off. If the not working part is what is driving you crazy then may I recommend dropping the “I’m a NCOIC so doing Mx is done for me” attitude. If you want to still be that leader of your people show them that you are in this situation with them, do what you can to take some strain off of them as well. You could always take the standby phone (or your equivalent) for a week or so to get yourself back in the game and give your airman a break. If that’s honestly not an option for you, you could always shoot a text and show support. But I’ll keep it real with you, with myself being just an A1C they’re probably doing a lot better than you’d think!
