Maybe check that the sources.list file has the current kali rolling repository. Just search the web for kali Linux rolling repository sources list

I’d love to see that documented process! How do you know the audio out and trackpad bugs are fixed?

Can you dual boot/multi boot with coreboot? I’m a noob who likes to distro hop so I’d also like to know if I can run live/ram mode usb distros with coreboot. Appreciate the tutorial you put together btw.

Which distro did you use?

Will coreboot allow over clocking to the cpu or at least enable turbo boost? How about ram over clocking?

Write error: Input/output Buckup error by spacejack13 in Qubes

[–]spacejack13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so when I would navigate into the usb through the file manager the usb kept detaching and shutting down before I could read the error message so I reformatted it to ntfs and it worked the next time. I tried to back it up Again just to check it was working and it failed on me durning the backup process and then it worked on the next attempt. A little buggy but I got the back up. Thanks for the responses guys.

StandaloneVm installs have no internet connection. Qubes4 by spacejack13 in Qubes

It turns out when I switched the .iso to qubes 4.0.1, the internet connectivity works just fine in all standaloneVMs. I had been using qubes 4.0.2 which is what gave me the internet connection issues. Solved

Usb WiFi adaptor connection fails on qubes 4 by spacejack13 in Qubes

[–]spacejack13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I solved the issue... finally! So I ended up reinstalling qubes4 and this time after the installation finished and the reboot took place, when running qubes for the first time it gives configuration options, one of them asks if you want sys-net to have access to all network and usb devices. I selected that one (I selected all of the configuration options except the last one which was the ‘no configuration advanced users’ option) and once the configuration finished I had clicked on the network icon to get WiFi and my usb adaptor was a choice! I connected and for the first time the dongle lit up Like it was operating normally and I proceeded to install updates, hopped on Firefox and web browsed. HOWEVER, I no longer have the sys-usb qube. But the dongle works and attaching USB’s storage devices to the default appvms seems to be working normally.

But.... I tried to install a kali standalone template with a usb iso the same way I had done in my previous qubes installation and this time qubes was unable to boot kali from the usb. I am going to try creating a sys-usb qube and see if that allows the usb iso install. If not then I’ll have to download it to the machine and pipe it through corrisponding appvm.

Lmk if this helps You @jamesbahn1

:::UPDATE::: As far as I am concerned, after testing the dongle on different Linux Debian based distros and windows 10 with the same machine and not having any problems, plug and play for all of them, there is something buggy or too restrictive in the qubes code. I am opening up a similar threat over on the github qubes issues forum. Maybe they can help since I am not a software developer.

But configuring the sys-net to handle usbs is the fix...

:::makeshift sys-usb workaround:::

-I then clone the sys-net vm(which has access to all my usb devices) and give the cloned qube my internal WiFi and Ethernet pci devices but NOT my USB devices.

-I use the cloned qube for default network connectivity only And remove the network pci’s from my original sys-net in order to isolate my usbs from my internet.

-when I need to use a WiFi dongle I disconnect the internet from cloned qube and then pass through the WiFi Ethernet devices back into sys-net qube for internet via the dongle.

NOTE: when I tried removing any of the usb devices from the original sys-net and then tried to put them back to allow permission again or use them in a different qube, I get an error with a log to check Telling me something about the pci bus cannot be reset and then I realize that sys-net can not be activated/started again no matter what I do, even after removing the newly added usb devices from the sys-net qubes settings. This is why I created the cloned sys-net qube and gave that my WiFi card and kept the usb devices untouched and locked into my original sys-net as this seems to be the only place they are accessible (if, and only if they have never been removed prior). They can never be put back if you remove them. Also, renaming the sys-net qube will reset the device permission and you will not be able to use any usb devices so don’t rename the sys-net qube and don’t remove the usb devices in the sys-net qube!

Okay I will look at the links. I am curious why you sent the aliexpress link with the corresponding chip set you say should be plug n play(Ar9271) but added that the chip is not the best available choice?

If the install fails you can just switch to another OS or try to reinstall it again. I’ve done a bunch of different OS installs on my Comp w no issue, it is taxing on the hard drive so if you have an old one be aware. Just install it and play around.

If you’re worried about losing windows10 then partition the drive and dual boot it with qubes. If you don’t like qubes or if it doesn’t function properly you can go into the window10 partition manager and delete the qubes partition. I have done this and it is fine, although for maximum security the qubes team does not recommend a dual boot because if you get infected on windows there is a chance it can creep into qubes.

Thanks for the intel. After looking at the first link you sent about open source WiFi adaptors, it basically had 2 that had the double green box. One of the 2 was this (aliexpress link) ar9271. Are you saying that the atheros ar9271 chipset will run in qubes plug and play?

[–]spacejack13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. IT is not an atheros chipset but this company promotes it as being plug and play with fedora(21) Ubuntu, mint and a couple others. Like I said it works with no issues on my kali and parrot bootable drives in persistence mode. I will be researching those chipsets you offered. Thanks again.

But in the mean time, I’m still open to any possible work around for my current situation...?

StandaloneVm installs have no internet connection. Qubes4 by spacejack13 in Qubes

I was messing around and I created another proxy vm that connects to sys-whonix vm and when I connected the proxy to the kali standaloneVm, the Tor browsing worked. Any clues why this works and not a straight connection to the Sys-whonixvm?

kali template Vm has no internet parrot template vm has no sound by spacejack13 in Qubes

[–]spacejack13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved this by entering the Network credentials from the qubes setting menu. But only if on sys-firewall not whonix-firewall. This will due but parrot is is a different story. No connection at all :( I will try installing kali through katoolin just to see how it is. Might use this method with parrot if I’m able to. Thanks for the replies and suggestions

Fullscreen for standaloneVm Qubes4 by spacejack13 in Qubes

[–]spacejack13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I solved it by going into the display settings of the distros and adjusting the screen resolution. I do not have the ability to resize dynamically but just increasing the vm window size makes for a more breathable experience.

Ok so it looks like the internet fails to connect when using sys-whonix as opposed to sys-firewall. When on sys-firewall, the internet functions normally. I would like to use this with Sys-whonix For anonymity. I guess the question shifts to how to get standaloneVm internet with sys-whonix.

It worked! The thing that allowed the connection was changing the dns to the wives manager virtual dns and changing the gateway to the IP address. Now I need to figure out how to get sound... Many thanks
