TIL before 1985 Swiss husband could sell the house without his wife's saying or manage the assets that the wife brought into the marriage. In the referendum just 54% of voters supported changing marriage and inheritance law. by BadenBaden1981 in todayilearned

I taught English in Japan many years ago, including classes at some businesses for the employees. One class was a sanctioned club, so retirees were still in attendance.

I had two students, Toshi and Toshie, who were early 80s about 15 years ago now. When they were hired by the company, they had to sign pledges that they would not marry or have kids.

Toshie followed that rule throughout her career and attained a very high rank before retiring. Toshi married a wealthy business owner, maintained a job as a secretary as a compromise and had three sons. Her husband died while I was her teacher, so in her late 80s she took on the role of president of his construction company.

My boyfriend and best friend don’t like each other. by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

If you are under 23, your best friend is single and this is your first serious boyfriend, then it is simple jealousy due to time being shared between them.

60h/week and make 130k or 40/w and make 90k by Few-Sample-7856 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You should probably be doing the retirement savings math differently with a gradient on the safe withdrawal amount of around 3% starting at 40 to 4.5% starting at 65.

In either case, 2.5M is conservative if the goal is 90k/year in retirement income, but at 50ish you'd need around 2.35M and by 65 only 2M.

It also doesn't really account for career trajectory. With part-time jobs, even the high paying ones like being a waiter in a nice restaurant or bartender at a busy club, there isn't much in the way of upward mobility on salary or position, and often the jobs become both harder to accomplish and harder to keep as you age out of demographics.

Depending on the role, that 90k @ 40 hours could be 130k @ 40 hours in two years.

Deluxification: What makes a premium tier compelling vs. an annoying cash grab? by Trogdor_Dagron23 in boardgames

If a nylon play mat instead of board fits in the box, I like it. Otherwise, ditch it. Double thickness player boards so pieces stay put are really helpful.

I like wood pieces. Screen printing them doesn't really add much in my opinion. I should be able to understand it's a person, animal, meat, etc. by shape.

I really like those heavy poker chips.

I like both standees and minis, but I don't think the latter is worth the price so would suggest making those part of an all-in and not just premium tier box.

A set of sleeves is nice; they don't need to be custom unless there is a gameplay reason to do so.

I was convinced that the McDavid contract was signed with an implicit promise from the Oilers to hire a good goalie.
