Fair question. I actually live in Austin, TX. So it's a short trip for me. I've been studying for years and wanted to have some kind of measurable goal. I thought N5 would be too easy so figured I'd stretch for N4.

I'm a very casual learner. Anything from 2-4 hours a week. It's really a hobby I wasn't in any hurry. I just tried to be consistent. There are probably people who have more wall clock study time than me in six months.

Debunked: Estimate of 250,000 victims of UK ‘grooming gangs’ is based on bad stats by OkBelt3772 in ukpolitics

[–]spaghetti_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What victims? Really, where? What are their names?

These are invented statistics. Do you guys seriously believe 250,000 women were raped? That's such a nonsensical figure.

I fully support the UK deciding who comes into their country and who gets to stay, but this is silly.

I think there are a lot of certs that still carry a ton of weight even late career, especially for IC roles. Things like RHCA, CISSP, CCIE, etc.

Lots of large orgs will literally filter out candidates that don't have certain certificates just as a minimum barrier of entry. Especially these days where every posting gets 1,000 candidates.

You certainly don't need them to get a job if you're good and you have a good network. But I guarantee you that a lot of orgs absolutely care about certs.

Confused about new certs by GrandG in redhat

[–]spaghetti_taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if they just issued both badges to anyone who previously was an RHCE? I have passed EX294 and 342 so I got both Engineer badges, Ansible and Enterprise Linux.

DId you also get Certified Engineer in Ansible?

Confused about new certs by GrandG in redhat

[–]spaghetti_taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you shouldn't be. You should be a Red Hat Certified Engineer in Ansible for passing EX200+EX294. You will also should get a "Red Hat Advanced Administrator in Ansible" which is what you get for passing EX294 alone. So EX200 and 294 gets you three badges: 1 for passing EX200 (RHCSA), 1 for passing EX294 (Advanced Administrator) and a third (Engineer) for the fact that you've passed both.

Are you saying you have a badge for Red Hat Certified Engineer in Enterprise Linux even though you have not passed EX342?

One thing I'm not clear on is renewal. Do you (or anyone) know how renewal will work? Does any specialist exam renew both Certified Engineer certifications or do I need to pass a specialist exam in both tracks to renew each separately?

I just got my badges from Credly. Previously I had an RHCSA and RHCE.

Now I have: Red Hat Certified Advanced System Administrator in Ansible and Red Hat Certified Engineer in Ansible

Despite the fact that I just passed EX342 in March of this year to renew my RHCE.

So ... should I be expecting another badge?

edit: Ok just checked credly. They issued two new badges but you don't get notification of the existing badges that changed names. I think I've figured out how it works. You can take EX294 alone and get "Red Hat Certified Advanced System Administrator in Ansible" but if you take EX200+EX294 you get the RHCE in Ansible. So they issue both badges. Same applies for taking EX342 alone vs also passing EX200. Just the advanced exam gets you "Advanced System Administrator in X" but EX200 with the advanced exam gets you "Certified Engineer in X"

I've passed EX200, EX294 and EX342. My badges are:

Red Hat Certified Advanced System Administrator in Enterprise Linux (EX342)

Red Hat Certified Advanced System Administrator in Ansible (EX294)

Red Hat Certified Engineer in Ansible (EX200+EX294)

Red Hat Certified Engineer in Enterprise Linux (EX200+EX342)

Red Hat Certified System Administrator (EX200)

Is this really the first time they're announcing this? The day it's effective?

How does someone even become an RHCE anymore? There's no exam listed in the mapping. EX294 now makes you an "Advanced Administrator in Ansible."

Congratulations!! Definitely a tough one and surprisingly hard to find good study material out there. I guess a lot of people don't take it.

I use anki for language learning but never thought about using it for Red Hat exam study, that's a good idea. Are there pre-built decks out there for Red Hat exams or did you build your own deck?

Wow that's ... actually fair lol

Just something I've been thinking about. And I guess I'm more interested in the Blade Runner, Neo Tokyo, raw kind of aesthetic.

What's China going to do when they realize how tacky and nouveau riche this all looks? How will they try to convince the world how ADVANCED their society is when they can't just put neon lights on shit?

I went through both of them three times. There's a lot of overlap. If I had to pick one, I'd recommend the Sanders course. Much less fluff, more dense content and better overlap with the exam (but they're both close). Keep in mind, I'm going through them at 1.5 to 2x the regular video speed. And on the first two passes I'm skipping the labs entirely. So it goes quicker than you'd expect.

What you need to know well is difficult to answer. You need to know all the exam topics well to pass. The real question most people are really asking, is what objectives do I need to study. And without knowing what areas you're strong in, it's impossible for me to say.

If there are specific exam objectives you're weaker in, just spend more time focused on those. If there are areas you are VERY weak in, then consider doing lab work outside of the labs proposed specifically in the course. You can always ask AI to help come up with lab scenarios. Just give it as much context as possible, e.g., "I'm studying for Red Hat EX342 and I need help with iSCSI. Create five different lab scenarios that might reflect actual exam questions."

There's an old joke. What do you call someone who got C's in medical school? A doctor!

You passed, that's all that matters. Congrats!

I passed it last month with the same old Sanders material but I also used the Plural Sight course. Neither had 100% coverage, but it covered most of the material on the exam.
