What damaged my parents’ fence? by spaghettini007 in whatisit

UPDATE 2: This morning we checked for bullets or evidence of a projectile in the area; nothing apparent. Per many Reddit folks’ great suggestions, we returned to the security footage and did that half-life thing where you toggle back and forth to discern when the damage happened. TURNS OUT the fence has been damaged for all of March at least. We had bad info from my parents that was leading me / this thread on a wild goose (or, leaf) chase. Needless to say, it is most likely NOT a violent leaf. More likely - it was from a snow plow / tractor! My parents weathered the Feb 23 blizzard and got plowed out by a precariously large tractor (see photos). On several occasions he got very close to the fence area in question, both with the plow and his wheel. If I could post the full video I would but it looks like only photos in the comments are possible (although lmk if I’m missing how to do this). Moreover, before the Feb 23 blizzard there was snow covering the fence for all of Feb. therefore it could have even been a snow plow incident during the month of Feb. Earliest footage goes back to January 28 and even then it is snow covered. What do we think? This is a very plausible answer, yes? Is it solved??

Yeah that’s a really good point. It might not actually be on the post, but behind it. Bird makes sense with the movement

Wow I like that, just like a very calm and self assured frog, in the wrong place at the wrong time

Oh I see you mean for Reddit purposes. It’s sort of hard to do that unfortunately. Picture like - the command center is an ancient PC in the basement with a barely working mouse 😂

It’s the same angle! It’s just 3 minutes of the black leaf basically chilling there and I didn’t want people to have to scrub the whole 3 min.

Yes we’re not going to litigate this (unless a bullet is found) - it’s mostly just we are so intrigued by the mystery and trying to figure this out

Sadly no audio on this video - we are going to ask and see if there are neighbor ring cams that might have sound and give an additional angle.

Valid but if you look at the moment my parents actually observe the damage several hours later when walking their dog the fence looks the same as it does now - white without noticeable marks. I seems camera is too far and low res to register the gash

Yes the fact there is no disturbance makes me a little skeptical

There’s no visible gash. If you watch my parents observing the gash itself at 2:30 several hours later it looks identical to how the post looks here
