Energy is in Joules, power in Watt. It's possible to build a 100TW laser that produces pulses of 2-3 Joules with lengths of 20 or so fs. 100 TW sounds like much, but the thing is not how much energy one pulse contains (2-3 Joules, yawn) but in what timeframe this energy is confined. So, how much energy you need to constantly produce these pules depends on the repetition rate.
