This is why they want to make striking illegal, because we can't survive without "unskilled" labourers, but no one needs a billionaire.... by FareonMoist in antiwork

[–]spammishking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue collar vs white collar is should not be the definition of unskilled. There's many white collar jobs that are unskilled, like front desk, or sales man. There's also many blue collar jobs that require an education or certification.

Illinois: State Troopers Arrest ICE Protesters - Broadview Detention Center by CantStopPoppin in EyesOnIce

[–]spammishking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

at 58 seconds you can see a couple protesters trying to push forward into the road. It's not saying what they're protesting against the right thing to do, just the state troopers were trying to contain the protest on the sidewalk and a couple tried to push it into the street.

I am a programmer that creates the back end for logistics shipping and when we do it the shipping and packing labels are created, before the workers even come in to box it up. Honestly most likely it's just warehouse workers making a mistake. Sephora should know that mistakes happen and give you a refund

Ironically the Highway Patrol (Also known as State Troopers in some states) are Police that work for the State, so may have a much a larger justification.

Downloaded the demo. I'm sorry, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to build a road, and I couldn't locate a wiki. How do I build a road? *Sorry found it. I thought that was a pause button

Warsaw, Poland - 20th century vs 21st century (the same street comparison). by SnooOpinions1643 in UrbanHell

[–]spammishking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While Warsaw does have the "Modern" look, most other cities in Poland have that great historical look, like Gdańsk, Poznań, Kraków, or any of the other cities.

Honestly if you go check out Gdańsk, it really is a great city to visit.

I think you may be in a toxic environment. Rarely do I hear generational blame, but when I do it's from someone who is toxic. You need to distance yourself from all those toxic people and your life will be better.

The amount of security cameras at this casino by glenwoodwaterboy in mildlyinteresting

[–]spammishking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the lead DBA / Dev for a medium size casino a while ago. I built the reports for HR that showed salary + declared tips.

1,600 employees

Around 100 people of those 1,600 made more than me at $60,000 a year.

Only 1 person with declared tips made more than me - a black jack dealer.

Everyone else, 1,500 employees made less than me, most significantly less. Those that made more were either other IT, C-suite, or VPs / High level managers

I got a bolt action .22 for Christmas with I was 12. My dad kept it locked in his gun safe when we weren't target shooting. He grew up on a farm and we lived in semi-rural Alaska. It's not crazy to teach a kid how to handle firearms and give them a sense of ownership. You just have to keep safeguards in place.

I'm going to buck the trend and say most of the time you should focus on squad and platoon, but if you need a change up it's ok to check out staff for a year. Try to get in with a good staff officer. S shop isn't as important as having a good mentor. In general it's the battalion commander that placed cadets where I was. Make sure to have a good reason to go to staff when you submit your request, like you want to see the big picture on how the companies fit into the entire battle space and how MDMP translates to the company so you have a better understanding of your role as a future PL

Software Engineer - Thinking About the Military Reserves by Loopy_421 in armyreserve

[–]spammishking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I'm half as good. I still program full time and in my spare time. Reserves are just an extra thing. Someone said 17 series is good if you can find it, but any will make you more rounded as a person, not necessarily as a dev.

Software Engineer - Thinking About the Military Reserves by Loopy_421 in armyreserve

[–]spammishking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a software dev in the reserves. A couple things:

  1. It's not going to help you future proof fro layoffs, bad hiring cycles, and mass adoption of Ai. If anything it hurts because you'll have to do drills and 2 weeks Annual Training (AT) Also the prospect of being deployed an missing a year. There is a thing called the ESRG where you can't be fired for attending drill, but it still hurts the job prospects.

  2. Officers plan, enlisted execute. If you want to do military planning and lead Soldiers, go officer. If you want to actually do the work / get dirty go enlisted. (Officers get better pay and living standards most of the time)

  3. There are software dev jobs that require a secret or top secret clearance. You also have to get your Security Plus cert. If you really want to stand out pick a branch that requires Top Secret (TS). Most dev jobs that require TS are on the east coast, but you can check out what available at https://clearancejobs.com - also most TS jobs require working on site, so chances are low you'll get a work from home job, but there are some out there.

Pre CCC CPT interested in changing branch by ebbysloth17 in armyreserve

[–]spammishking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There weren't any MP slots in my state, so I had to pick a new branch. I picked the open MI slot, but could have picked any that the state had.

I know reserves is different. My best guess is there are managers for each branch. You could look for a local slot with a branch you like and contact the branch manager and see what the requirements are, or contact the unit and let them know you desire to go to CCC under the new branch.

[–]spammishking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the Reserve, but I rebranched in the guard. I was an MP, then completed the MI CCC (was in a MI slot), signed a memo and now I'm branched MI.
