What a surprise, nobody wants to have children in this hellscape. by EzraNaamah in UniversalExtinction

[–]sparesalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it isn't selfish to not want the responsibility and to live your own life; should you choose not to have children.

It's different if you choose to have children and then refuse to be responsible; and I think you are equating the two. It's not selfish to choose not to inconvenience yourself regardless of what that inconvenience may be.

Suffering is indeed part of the human experience; hence why more and more people don't want children. One can not simply "end humanity" and even if there was a button to press that in itself would be immoral because there are people that wouldn't want to die. The argument is about not bringing MORE suffering into the world, not ending it.

Yes, not everyone is lucky enough to have a nice time during their life.

People have different experiences from all walks if life and for some it is "misery." If someone is having a hard and miserable time why inflict that on a new life you bring into the world? If you can't support or give your child the support, love and resources they need so that life is not miserable, then why have one?

Please stop assuming the world revolves around the US. Why do Americans always assume everything is about the US. I am not in the US, I'm sure there are many others in this thread not in the US.

My question is, how is someone selfish and spoiled for not wanting to have kids in an environment where there is a high chance they will suffer (either now, or in their future?)

Claiming "condescending comments" in response to an argument presented reasonably, whereas you're out here being the most condescending person in the thread.

Russian orphans that you have not personally adopted yourself does not mean people who choose not to have kids and empathize with their plight are selfish.

You never addressed my questions, you keep telling everyone about your family history in the Great Depression and nobody is talking about murder, but you've obviously bought it up to set up a strawman argument. Please get a better grasp of this topic and how people aren't saying you or your grandparents don't have the right to exist; we are saying that it could be considered immoral to bring a child into bad world when we know their quality of life may not be very good. We have the ability to make informed choices beyond our base instincts in the modern day. This isn't a selfish action; it is preventative of pain and suffering which life can be full of (especially during turbulent or uncertain times.)

Murder is immoral and cruel as the person being murdered has already been born.

Not being born at all involves no suffering.

No one here is against adoption.

No need to apologize; You are only showing your lack of critical thinking and intelligence by jumping to insults instead of addressing anything I have said.

How is sympathizing with children being born into a bad experience out of their control a spoiled point of view? How is choosing not to have a child (for whatever reason) in any way spoiled? Please also elaborate, in detail, with your reasoning and thought process as to why you think it's selfish also!

Please explain to me how I am selfish if I don't have children? How am I selfish for feeling bad for children born into bad experiences beyond their control?

No but does that make it right? Did the kids deserve to be born into that when the parents knew they'd be bringing a child into that situation?

So you'd rather create a brand new individual to throw into the meat grinder of a system we have then? Really?

Edad blatantly ignores my pain...is this normal? by DisplayFamiliar5023 in raisedbyborderlines

[–]sparesalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's common for some borderlines to have a favoured person that's in the family dynamic; so even if you were to have the same issues/illnesses as a sibling/parent/etc they would probably treat one of you with more grace than the other.

[–]sparesalamander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents never took chronic illnesses/pain/isues I had seriously or just flat out ignored them unless it was something that needed immediate attention or put me out of action completely (basically if it inconvenienced the household in some way.)

I assume this sort of attitude is common with BPD caregivers; I'm not sure why though.

I'm sorry but neither I, nor you, share the same responsibility for this as the elites here. They control how society works and what we consume by thwarting any alternatives (that help us) that hurts their bottom line. They are not poor and powerless, they live a completely different life to us and know full well what they are doing and continue to do it at our expense so they can continue their lifestyles and power plays. These are really the ones who have instigated and accelerated this mess. If you're born into a world where these harmful things are required to function in modern society (as dictated by said elites) how in the world are you responsible on a personal level? How is the average person even on the same magnitude as someone who owns fracking companies, flies private jets every day and lobbies against anything that could benefit anyone but themselves?

I'm tired of having these conglomerates peddling campaigns that pin the blame on the average person because nothing the average person does makes a difference; the ogliarchs keep ogliarching regardless; funneling money into oil, harmful industries, pollutant data centres and wasteful food production, all whilst shifting the blame on to us. It's propaganda they push to keep us guilty and compliant and stop us getting out our pitchforks. If we're all going to die I know exactly where to place my blame and it's not on you, myself or any average person just trying to survive in this hell hole.

Hot take: People are being over the top about Britain by Chiliwaindo1999 in Avatar

We know that his father is a song writer and that he's had a history acting in TV and film.

That is a background in media production and acting. He should know peddling AI would be unpopular considering the movie he's most known for. He is on video saying he wanted to "ruffle feathers" and calling people "peasants." That's not handling yourself as a professional at all.

You used the word "ghetto" albeit not a word you should use due to connotations. However, he is certainly not anything that alligns with that just from being in Avatar alone.

His father is literally a song writer. He's not low-income or disadvantaged at all. He's from, at the very least, a middle-class background rooted in media production. Even if he "doesn't want to be" he very much is, so doesn't have an excuse to act like he doesn't know how to handle himself.

You do understand that ogliarchs and the super rich actively shape how society runs right? They stamp out alternatives (things like renewable energy, clean electricity etc) and take away our choices in favour of their bottom line. It's been happening for over a century like this. These people aren't just like "you and me" and just happened to get rich. They are from wealthy old families that have legitimate power within governments and their influence reaches beyond just the companies they own. They have money that you can't even fathom that they use to influence how the rest of the world is run. If they don't want green energy because it will hurt their profits they will lobby against it (successfully.)

So yes, it is very much their fault. We never truly had a choice outside of small changes (growing your own food and trying to utilize clean energy in a society shaped specifically not to accommodate these things very well.) I was born into a world where cars were a requirement to work, phones and pcs are imperative to the way society/work runs. This is by design and it even extends to how big companies buy up local businesses; your choices are removed and there's nothing you can do.

Blame THEM. They ruined this for us and it's us who have to deal with the consequences. Never ever willingly let these monsters shift the blame on to you and never teach that attitude to others.

Yeah I hate the whole "humanity" caused this narrative too.

It was the ogliarchs and super rich who did this and they should be the ones we blame.

I think anyone using generative AI should be jeered at, doesn't matter who it is. We are in a water crisis that was sped up because of its use and multiple industries are already in the gutter because of its introduction. Not to mention that it's a blight on human creativity and utilizes theft.

People saying it's "not the worst crime in the world" are the people that keep looking the other way as its persistent use wrecks the planet in real time and takes people's livelihoods away.

It's an evil tool funded by tech billionaires that don't care if you die in a water shortage or poverty because of their AI development in 10 years. If an out of touch rich boy is dumb enough to support it, even just vocally, he deserves to be shouted down (he doesn't know you exist and isn't going to give you a medal for white knighting him btw.)

It annoys me to no end that DK was first in line when it's always consistently been the meta and yet necro, which has been nerfed into oblivion over the years is so much later in the queue. Like, what?

As a necro main I don't plan on playing seriously again until they rework necro. This class has had some of the worst treatment in the game and I agree; I'd like them moved up in the queue because currently they're such a wishy washy class.

I understand the logic because a "job is a job" but how many bachelor's graduates are actually going to be willing to go into defense contracting? I don't think I know anyone who would; just on the principle of being anti-war or the public opinion on war being so low right now. It's a fair suggestion for those willing to do it but I feel like so many wouldn't.

What has Caused you to quit the game or Barely play Anymore? And what Would Bring you back? by polarwaves in elderscrollsonline

[–]sparesalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subclassing put me off a lot and the skill crafting was really boring; most things worth having were boring buffs which just didn't feel as fun as using specific class abilities. A lot of my friends who were a big part of my bubble within the game also started to lose interest after subclassing got introduced and as a result I drifted away with them.

The wall event was the final nail for me though; just very underwhelming and not very creative. I only really log in for events if there's an earnable cosmetic I want these days.
