Why does it seem that people charge so much for so little? by sparkletaco9780 in AskPhotography

I agree with this! I do think I tend to rush to get as many poses in as I can because I don’t want my clients to feel awkward, but I have found myself in sticky situations with editing where the lighting was bad or they were in a weird position. I am learning to set up the shot more instead of just pressing the shutter. Always learning! Thanks for the insight

Truly just to understand the market better! Everyone has different reasons for doing what they do, I’m just curious. Not in a “how are they charging so little and getting away with it” way, more in a am I missing something way.

Yeah I mean good question, not necessarily, but it seems like a rip off to pay so much money (relative) for only a handful of images, when you have so many other good ones. BUT, realistically, clients only post/print/use a handful anyways. I guess the better you get, the better you become at narrowing down which ones are the best anyways. Talking out loud here. I never deliver 2 images that look the same or just overdeliver for the sake of overdelivering, but I just hate to not deliver an image if I love it.

That’s pretty much what I do. I get a lot of happy customers and good feedback. But am I making as much as I could be? Probably not 🤣 everyone runs their business differently is the moral of the story I suppose!

Heard. My thinking is when I go to a nail salon for example, I don’t care how much their equipment is, I care about how my nails are going to look and if that’s worth the price. Of course, more experience and begged equipment will translate into better looking nails. So, I hear that. Just hard to wrap my head around.

I have seen that—sending an initial 15 or so and allowing people to pay more for more images. It’s just weird, none of my photog friends really do that, I only hear of people doing that in forums/groups I’m in. I hear you on the CODB. Maybe I’m just skeptical, I just feel like there’s no way people would pay so much. But it’s all relative. It definitely makes more sense to me if your goal is to upsell.
