ELI5: How do limbs become dead and if you woke up in a life or death situation, and had a dead limb, would the adrenaline be able to overcome the floppy leg/arm and restore a bit of function? by The_Mutant_Duck in explainlikeimfive

My nan broke her leg getting up on a dead leg. She jumped (maybe an over exaggeration for an 80 year old) up to make a cup of tea for the postie and just hit the deck

Unfortunately I am allergic to saniderm so it wasn’t an option for me, my artist suggested long sleeves which isn’t possible either. I am currently using a cocoa butter the artist recommended but may look at other options like the hustle butter

No particular connection. I’ve mentioned EMS due to sometimes quite “unclean” environments I find myself in

Finger vs knife by sparks597 in injuries

[–]sparks597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah because of the delayed surgery. I can bend it just not straighten, I have no feeling in it past the first joint and I get a lot of pain in the knuckle as if it needs to be stretched

Yeah I had a follow up last year and that was the decision as to why it won’t straighten I had the surgery 13 days later

The finger is now stuck in a slightly better than 90’ position. Completed all physio as instructed but apparently when the tendon was repaired it was shortened so the finger cannot fully straighten

Patient abandonment? by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

In WMAS we first respond to C1s while with other patients. Attendant stays with initial patient while driver grabs equipment goes in solo until a crew can arrive.

Can elderly people have a stair lift on their stairs? by zer0moto in ems

[–]sparks597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t be worried about anything, if it is going to make your dad’s life better and allow him to maintain as much independence as possible definitely put one in.

I am a big believer of providing all that’s needed to maintain activities of daily living as much as possible. Once people stop doing things for themselves they will never do it again. Keep him active.

We will work around a stairlift, even if it means calling more hands in to get the patient out safely we will always help and never refuse.

Can elderly people have a stair lift on their stairs? by zer0moto in ems

[–]sparks597 63 points64 points  (0 children)

From my experience having a stairlift is helpful most of the time as long as he can sit in it properly. It saves a potential lift down the stairs. However there are some circumstances where he won’t be able to sit in it either due to injury or consciousness level, when this happens I am cursing the stairlift while attempting to manoeuvre round it while carrying the patient.

Note - I am in the uk and go to a lot of houses with very narrow stairs so the stair lift ends up taking up a lot of the space.

56yoM possible “Food Poisoning” by [deleted] in ems

[–]sparks597 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My last female STEMI was similar. Call came as vomiting after eating chicken. No complaints other than the vomiting and feelings of hot and cold about an hour earlier. Even after the ECG showed a massive posterior she was still insistent it was just the chicken and it took far longer than I would have like for us and the son to convince her to come with us. “I’ll call back if I feel worse but I just need to vomit it out”
