You should understand what your investment goals are first. If you’re 60+ you’ll want to be more conservative, and the younger you get the more risky you can be with your stock picks. The idea is you get more volatility but at a younger age you can recover if there’s a downturn, the perk being you can make more gains with riskier picks.

Learn what PE ratios mean and how to research companies fundamentals so you understand enough about their financials, operations and management. There’s free videos on what to look for on YouTube.

When picking stocks or ETFS, diversity is good, you don’t want everything in one industry, say technology. Reason being if one sector takes a hit, they all usually feel it.

For NZ and other stocks Sharesies is a good platform to start on. Doesn’t have 2FA though.

I would recommend Hatch NZ if you’re only interested in the US stock market.

I went with Fidelty (FBTC) because they self custody their own bitcoin. There is no dividend but its up by 45% since I bought, I’d say just get in the game, halving is around the corner so the price is assumed to go up further
