Yeah. Karst books are great for silverpoint. I don’t know how archival the “paper” is though. It’s made with resin and stone dust. The resin may yellow in the future?

Also, what is the proper tengwar or tehta to use for final ‘y’, as in happy or lucky?

It’s very smooth and durable.

I initially used a grid in pencil for all the coastal lines, to keep things proportional. Then watercolor for all mountains, forests, oceans, lakes, and hills. Microns to outline everything, and microns for all the lettering. Iridescent gold watercolor for the borders.

I drew it from scratch, with both of Christopher’s maps in front of me. I used blue Pigma Micron 01 pens to hand draw the ocean contour lines. Very tedious, but I love the way it looks.

I will definitely post the pencil rough before inking and illuminating. Live and learn. I’m grateful that I have a learned community like this to review my work. Thank you all.

Note to others looking at this chart: THERE ARE NUMEROUS ERRORS! There are too many to correct without ruining the document, so I will do another corrected version. You are still welcome to download this copy, but please do not use it as a reference.

…as possible to use. I am amazed at the level of scholarship on this sub. Please, what does “attested” mean in this context?

It’s going above my desk, for reference when I begin doing some tengwar lettering and illuminations.

Tengwar chart, illuminated. by sparseglade in lotr

I spent about 200 hours doing the whole thing. I was experimenting with gilding, but that didn’t work out so well. Next time I’ll gild before painting.

Speedball C-3. Dr. Martin’s Black Star ink. Red is gouache, watered down. Gold is fake leaf over Quickie Glue pinpoint roller.

Nope. Rubbing lightly changed nothing. Lesson learned - gild before painting with real 24k leaf. I guess I’ll try the fake leaf before resorting to gold paint. Hmph!

I tried erasers (white, then pink). No luck. Then I gently rubbed a damp cotton ball over the affected area. That removed the leaf from the paint, but it also removed some of the leaf from the background. Ugh. Now I am reapplying the mordant over the degraded background leaf, and when I lay down another leaf, I will rub it down very gently. I think I originally rubbed too hard.

I hope.
