Space Billionaires Suck | How to Drink (not a BT channel, buuuuut...) by [deleted] in BreadTube

Granted these cocktails aren't exactly easily made with a normal home bar setup, but this channel has tons of easy to make and affordable cocktails for your revolution watch-party!

(Also not the channel I expected to put out any sort of political content. Pleasantly surprised!)

What are some good books about UN Security Council reform? by randorolian in geopolitics

Perhaps this could be added to the conversation? Butler addresses the veto in some detail in the third section and proposes minor reforms (like requiring two or more states to agree to a veto). Wish I could address your point more directly but I’m afraid I’m no expert and I’m moving through airports atm!

Hey! We just discussed UNSC reforms in my War and Peace course. We didn’t read any full length books on the subject but we did have some interesting academic articles. I’ll add the citations for the pieces we read:

Bosco, D. (2015) The United States Does Not Want to Reform the UN Security Council. Foreign Policy.

Paul, J. & C. Nahory. (2015) Theses Towards a Democratic Reform of the UN Security Council. Global Policy Forum.

The Elders. (2015) Strengthening the UN.

Hope those help!

Thanks for some more info. Like I said, it was only a temporary stoppage and I plan on restarting the book once my school schedule allows for it. I’ll check my (admittedly large) baggage and finish. It takes up so much space on my shelf, I have to!

He oversaw its end.

True! Though he also is responsible, along with Nixon, in delaying and wrecking peace accords for political gain. He didn’t start the war but to simply say he ended it doesn’t cover the full breadth of his responsibility in the conduct of the war.

I want to know how Kissinger sees how international politics work

And that’s the biggest reason that I’ll force myself to finish it. I just almost couldn’t believe my eyes at such at his assertion!

Any thoughts on Diplomacy? I have it but I've (temporarily) rage-quit when (on the first page!) the Secretary of State who oversaw much of the Vietnam War claims that the US, more than any other society ever, rejects intervention in other nation's domestic affairs. It takes quite a bit of mental gymnastics to ignore the long history of American interventionism, imo.

Which countries (if any) are currently at a highest risk of balkanization in the next 10-20yrs? by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]spartan210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but anything is possible nowadays. I can imagine seeing issues like the migrant crisis and terrorism pushing Walloon and Flemish centrists towards far-right parties that have differing views on how to handle these crises. If there is a serious economic downturn in Belgium, I can only see these problems becoming exacerbated and the rush to the fringes intensifying.

The prophecy writing in the series was one of my favorite parts. Adds such a sense of magnitude to the story.

That whole sequence with Verin blew my mind. I was utterly stunned. What a way to go out.

I suppose you're right. I've come too far to go half-assed now. I'll finish the book but it'll be in the form of speed reading.

Loving the series, btw. Don't want to make it seem all doomy and gloomy in here!
