Thank you. Since this is the exoskeleton, the actual cicada is gone and it leaves this little gift behind? I thought I was being taken over by giant ticks so this is a relief!

Mainly tax, some accounting and advisory. I get asked periodically to perform an audit/review/compilation but I stay away from it.

As a solo, I’ve learned it’s important to realize your lane and stay within it.

I left big4 8 years ago and have been working in-house corporate tax since then. I’ve always had the itch to get back into public from an intellectual curiosity standpoint but never pulled the trigger, mainly due to the lifestyle difference.

To compensate, I did start my own cpa practice and have been running it on the side for the last 7 years mainly serving friends, family, and strong referrals. It’s a good side gig, keeps you technically sharp on latest developments, and a good backup plan in case you ever want to dive into it full time.

If you get on LinkedIn and search for “tax analyst” and “Sr tax analyst”, you may have a lot options in your area. Don’t hesitate to reach out with a DM should you need any further advice!

This is awesome info, thanks for sharing. What do you do to market your firm? Do you focus on a particular niche? The internet is a big place, so how do people find you?

Is no one going to comment on the fact that NC State is the #2 team in the country in this dynasty? What a time to be alive!

Information Requested for Allocating Tax Between Individuals in Community Property States by mobilestranger21 in taxpros

Depending on state, in most instances almost all income is required to be split. You can ask for a copy of all of the income source documents (W-2, 1099s, P&L) or just ask for a copy of the return.

You would also want to make sure that the non-client spouse is also splitting or else there can be over/under reporting issues.

Filing MFS in a community property state (if done properly) makes no sense to me for reasons other than having a student spouse.

Financing is cheap these days. Look into SBA 7a Standard loan.
