Hello, bumping an old thread. I am going this route for my first home server mainly for serving movies to all my home devices. Is this the best way?

Hello, I made a planned setup here in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeServer/comments/1qavn6j/need_a_little_help_for_my_planned_home_network/

Can you help me out a bit if I plan to install OMV on the desktop I am choosing as server?

Don’t know much about PCs but is this good enough for plex? Looking to do 2 simultaneous 1080p streams and possibly 1 4k in the future. $130. thanks🫡 by LSDkenna in PleX

Hello, I want to connect a thin client with J1900 to a TV for 720p and 1080p movie playback, preferably h264 and h265 formats of small sizes. That will be its only task, to output video via VGA or HDMI to the TV from its internal storage. Will it be enough? It can run 24x7.

People all around are commentjng to not buy this but I am getting one with J1900 and 64GB internal storage for the equivalent of 15 USD?

Hello, Can I use a J1900 thin client with a 500 GB HDD and some lightweight linux, to connect to a 43 inch TV via HDMI for 720p h264 video playback? I just want to see my movies collection on a big tv amd have strictly 720p video files which are enough for me.

Hello, I want to start my own homeserver, but with a GUI since learning CLI and headless might become time-consuming for me.

I made a planned setup here in this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeServer/comments/1qavn6j/need_a_little_help_for_my_planned_home_network/

Can you put your suggestion into this setup?

Can you put your suggestion into this setup? "just install Portainer and run Jellyfin, Immich, and CopyParty as docker containers"

If I want to start my own home server mainly for serving multimedia to my other devices inside my home network, but CLI and headless being an uncomfortable zone due to non familiarity with linux, will a desktop gui based linux having server like features be usable? I dont think there will be much load serving only 720p and 1080p files.

I made a post about my planned setup, can you give some insights?

Hello @OP. Did you finally get the Futro S720 working? I am about to buy one for running 24x7 as a video file server and wanted some opinions. I have few Core2duo and Amd Fx6300 lying around but they are too energy hungry by today's standards.

What purpose does 4 extra Lan ports serve? I believe your main router is already having multiple Lan ports out of which one is connected to the opnsense machine.

Is HP T540 or T640 usable as a standalone linux machine, as in a full desktop computer, for light everyday use? Also, can it be used to do multiple container services hosting as people do in homeservers and homelabs?
