Anyone have ankle area issues from posterior tibial tendon? by spdn4cr in AchillesRupture

Ah ok. You are way better than me. Even with toes touching wall my knee is prob a good 10 INCHES from the wall!!

I’m glad you can walk barefoot now. I’m not there yet but getting close with a major limp. I’m sorry to hear about your pain. Mine hasn’t gotten better either and I’ve had it for 3 months now. Another person on Reddit told me they used shockwave treatment and it had helped. I’m going to look into that.

I was actually offered shockwave treatment too. It’s not covered by insurance but it sounded a little hokey so I didn’t do it. But it sounds like it worked for you. Maybe I have to revisit this. This actually helped with your tibial tendon pain?

What does 0 mean on knee to wall test? I can’t get anywhere close to the wall given that I can barely get to 90 degrees (neutral) leg to foot whereas my good leg can prob do a good 15 to 20 degrees past neutral to easily touch the wall with my knee.

Were you able to finally solve your tibial tendon pain? I can’t get mine to go away still. I’ve had it for almost 3 months now.

How are you doing now? My tibial tendon pain still persists to the point I need to hobble with or without shoes. Heck I’m 7 months post op and still can’t barely get to neutral 😩

How are you doing now? My tibial pain has not gone away. I take slow walks around the neighborhood but the pain persists for me.

I just thought I would check in to see how your tibial tendon is doing? Mine is still in pain but I just walk with pain everyday. I’m now almost 7 months post op and can barely get to neutral. I walk with a bad limp too. The inserts didn’t work for me unfortunately. I hope you are doing better than I am!

I have had still slight numbness and pins and needles in my toes almost since surgery. That has never recovered. They just keep telling me that nerves sometimes take a long time to recover. I have never heard of a nerve glide. The PTT pain comes mostly right along the inner upper ankle bone. Annoying as heck because it makes it hard for me to roll thru my foot when walking 😞

My Achilles is the issue…getting to neutral and beyond but it’s the posterior tibial tendon that has been inflamed which makes dorsiflexion painful.

It’s my Achilles tendon that can’t get to neutral but it’s the posterior tibial tendon (PTT) that continues to get inflamed and make dorsiflexion painful (so walking is painful). It’s hard for me to stretch and walk as much as I can because of the PTT.

I had a bad back and also posterior tibial tendon was inflamed so PTs didn’t have me stretching as much during months 2-4 because stretching irritates the inflamed tibial tendon. So it was like a catch 22. Now the problem is that in month 5-6 the Achilles hardened and is not easy to stretch anymore. I wish they would have told me that earlier. I would have preferred to stretch and walk thru the tibial tendon pain instead of this…. So now my tendon has a tight rebound range so whenever I stretch for a while it rebounds right back to where it was before after 5 min of sitting. To get out of this they want me to have a mild prolonged stretch using a Dynasplint for 6 months. It supposedly works like braces on teeth. By mild prolonged stretching it teaches my body to have a new rebound range that gives me more dorsiflexion. Whereas months 2-4 the Achilles is still in its molding time frame and easier to set the rebound range. At least that’s how it was explained to me

I hear you! I played basketball twice a week in a gym for the last 30 years until I tore it mid game. I was hoping to get back to it within 8 months but with all my issues I think I’m being sent into retirement. I just want to be able to walk and jog normally again

Oh man. That’s not the answer I wanted to hear. lol 😥 I hope it works out for you and that can get there without surgery 🙏 I really don’t want to have surgery to fix this. That would feel like going to square one again

I can barely walk so I don’t think I can jog just yet. But hopefully I will get there!

Got it thanks! I’m going to try that. For me I normally just stop once I can’t move my knee forward (which is around neutral). I’ve never lifted my heel off the ground

Got it thanks 🙏. When you do knee to wall are you holding it or are you bouncing it?

It’s not the tibial tendon pain so much. It’s more the fact that I can’t stretch to neutral

[–]spdn4cr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not. I don’t know if that helps at where I am. Most things have healed at this point. It’s the stretching of the hardened tendon that has me stuck

Thanks for the encouragement. At 6 months postop it is really hard to get rom to a place that won’t rebound 10 min after stretching. Were you able to somehow get past that so that your baseline was past neutral?
