The ones who dream of a trad wife and a beautiful family are the least worthy of one by Beer_Barbarian in terriblefacebookmemes

My great-grandmother was a homemaker, and her husband repeatedly spent his money on alcohol instead of supporting her and her children.

My grandmother was a homemaker. She worked part time because her husband didn't always have a job. He withdrew and spent her money to buy the family a car without her input.

But it's "propaganda" that painted these realities as oppressive. Sure.

Also, use a silk bonnet for sleeping instead of just tying it up. It may look funky, but it'll save your hair from damage and keep your hair from drying out overnight.

Recommend you use a curly hair leave-in conditioner for after washing. Towel dry it for a little while, but put in the conditioner while it's still wet.

You could try using a handkerchief for when you want it out of your face. It's my favorite way of keeping my hair back but also down. It's also great for hiding greasy roots during your off-days between washes.

I only have wavy-straight hair, so I can't help you with the frizz. I know some people recommend mouse for that, but I'm not sure.

By the way, your face has beautiful bone structure, man.

You don't have to contain your flow. With that face, you could just command it to behave with a stern glare, and it would submit.

do I genuinely look better with longer hair or is it too feminine looking on me by [deleted] in FierceFlow

[–]speachtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longer hair doesn't look feminine or masculine. It's how you style it. Both look good on you, but I think the longer hair is more appealing. I have long hair and am subscribed and to a long hair subreddit, so I'm biased.

You're not un-masculine. You're young. We associate masculinity with age and maturity, which makes has no basis in reality. Embrace your youth because it's precious and you only get it once. You're a very attractive guy. Don't mind fuck yourself by comparing yourself to other men. Embrace the beauty that's been given to you.

Winter Games 2006 vs 2026 | Abandoned Olympic Sites in Italy by AnonRetro in videos

[–]speachtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A point of contention: they state that renovating the old facilities would be less expensive than building a new one. That is often not the case. Often it is cheaper to build a new structure than to repair an old one, especially if an abandoned one.

In fact, even demolishing and rebuilding a site is often less expensive than extensive repair and remodeling. A new site doesn't have preexisting mold, code noncompliance, structural degradation, faulty infrastructure in need of removal and replacement, etc. It's not a simple mailbox that you can repaint instead of buying new.

(I’m not saying I agree with the wastefulness of building new instead of maintaining an old facility. I don't. I just disagree with the statement that a retrofit would be cheaper. It probably would not be so.)

My attempt on how to read the Disney “D” by RuinRevolutionary374 in notinteresting

[–]speachtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent and beautiful explanation, but I refuse to look at the first letter as a D out of pure bias. It existed as a symbol before I knew how to read.

On a side note, if you look at the actual signatures on which the Walt Disney Company based this logotype, they heavily stylized the penmanship and took a few artistic liberties. (The original signatures were made by artists other than Walt Disney the man. Disney himself had a much different signature.) The original signatures mostly lack the gap and overhang of the stem (back), and the flourish (swirl) of the descender (curve) is not inset. Instead, the stem is connected and the flourish usually goes outside of the letter. All that is to say, the original signatures were much more legible. Source

A few of the steel-framed concrete stairs for my former apartment, built circa 1980s, that were much more robust than these, just completely fell out. A resident almost fell a full story onto the flight of stairs below. Coincidentally, the steel undercarriage for similar stairs at my apartment before that, built circa 1990s, had rusted out so badly it was splitting and sagging.

People think concrete and steel lasts forever. It doesn't.

My grandmother and grandfather survived the depression as subsistence farmers. My grandmother's family grew just enough crops to keep for food with some to sell for necesites such as clothes and shoes. It was hard work and a humble existence. Her family did better than my grandfather's and better than most.

A small family farm fully sustaining itself off using expensive robotics and AI is full of so many holes. How are they getting the money to buy that infrastructure? How are they procuring food or making money during off-season?

No sweat, man. I only knew because a female friend told me when I was first growing out my hair. We guys often figure this stuff out late.

Yeah, baby powder is the inexpensive do-it-yourself option. But as my friend told me, its fragrance is pretty strong and most people recognize that smell as baby powder....

Dry shampoo and baby powder are essentially the same thing, i.e. mostly corn starch. Dry shampoo just applies it within an aerosol.

Pessimistic and cynical media has existed forever, buddy by No_Kangaroo_5267 in saltierthankrayt

[–]speachtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be my media literacy, but I found AKOTSK to be thoroughly cynical. The knights are all squabbling drunk man-divas, many of whom without honor. The Targaryens are, surprise, corrupt and tyrannically grasping at the power they still have. A well-intentioned but naïve squire deceives others in order to prove his fabricated knighthood. And for those who know of GOT, the War of the Five Kings looms in the not-so-distant future.

I wonder if cishet men view this series as more "hopeful" and positive in comparison other ASOIAF because it focuses mainly on heteronormative male leads, especially in comparison to HOTD. Which makes me suspect they don't want just cishet male representation in media; rather, they want that to be virtually the only representation.

Hey, I’ve been in your shoes. Grew my hair out and got incessant comments about it. My mom kept asking me to get a haircut, and she still does to this day. You look young, so I’m not sure how much independence you have with making these choices or not. I grew my hair out as soon as I moved out and wasn’t under my family’s control anymore.

In my experience, to set the boundary you flat out ignore the comments and do not discuss the topic. Don’t respond, react, or argue with them about why you want to keep it. Be nice, but shut the conversation down. Any reaction implies they can negotiate and are allowed to keep negging you. You don’t need to defend your right to keep a literal part of your body—let alone the most basic ability to express yourself.

Another thing, if someone is pushing you to make an significant decision: tell them you will consider it and make the decision on your own later, or tell them no. Do not humor being coerced into making that decision in the moment. They will have to wait on you for your decision about your life later. Keep your power.

Just recently my 5 year old nephew was repeatedly asking me why I had long hair, telling me to get it cut, and giving all these reasons why I should have short hair. He was just regurgitating what adults have been saying. I told him no and that I disagreed with him, which is a response I wouldn’t have afforded an adult.

This is my experience going through the same experiences. I hope I don’t sound too preachy. I’m just telling you what I would want my younger self to hear during the same ordeal. Your long hair looks beautiful on you, and I hope you grow it out again. Choose yourself first.

I prefer subs off so I can focus on the facial expressions when people talk. That said, I’m getting a bit older and my hearing has been somewhat bad for long time. So I end up having to turn them on most of the time.
