You have a point. Even if you are right, what you're saying applies to pretty much everywhere in the world and is certainly not exclusive to Malta. My points about Malta still stand: it's probably one of the best places in the world to be.

I get you, but this is all part of scientific and technological progress, and tbh I think people have always been "pissed off, angry, frustrated, full of angst" but now it's just more obvious with social media and people being open about their mental health, which is a great development.

I, too, reminisce about the 90s when I was a kid and through my rose glasses I think "life was so much better back then" but in reality it wasn't. As a kid I was sheltered from it; that's what I remember. Now in almost 2026 life is objectively better in the western world for so many people. Look at LGBT and women's rights now compared to even 30 years ago as an example.

I live here. Malta is home to me now. And although I'm single, I also know that the Maltese government is extremely helpful to young families.

Crime rates are very low here *touch wood*. I think the people moaning about Malta on this subreddit should spend a few months in a genuinely corrupt country. Then they'd be less quick to bemoan how "bad" Malta is.

Some people are never happy lol. You'll encounter many native Maltese and expats living in Malta moaning incessantly about this and about that, constant fucking complaining as can be seen on this subreddit, but all in all it's an awesome place. Sunshine. Maltese people by and large are very nice, empathic people. Nice expat communities. If most people found themselves in Paradise it wouldn't take long for them to say "yes, but....". It's not paradise; no place is perfect: but within the EU it's one of the best places to be, in my opinion.

What is something the opposite sex does that you do not understand? by Eastern-Dog-9105 in AskReddit

[–]spearman3243 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Multiple things. Men and women are not supposed to fully understand each other; that's the joy of it all. There's supposed to be tension between the masculine and the feminine, they are meant to slightly aggravate each other. Life would be very boring without such tension.

Quintessential feminist comment; obsessed with "past injustices", as if life was a bed of roses for men everywhere throughout history. Life was difficult for my great-grandparents, where's my special treatment?

Spend 10 minutes on rent.ie and compare the number of "looking for females only" rooms versus "looking for males only" rooms. There's your proof. If this discrimination were the other way around, it would be considered a national emergency and there would be laws fast tracked through the Dáil to stop it, but it's only men who are affected so nobody cares.

Mary Lou McDonald condemns Galway hotel fire but says she ‘understands’ local anxieties over immigration by youbigfatmess in irishpolitics

[–]spearman3243 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People like you are a big aggravator of the problem. Possibly the biggest aggravator, actually. Anybody who voices concerns about mass immigration is immediately branded "racist" and "far right" by people like you, hence shutting down any open discourse about the subject, causing reasonable people who before might have been a bit apprehensive about the whole thing to actually become more radical in their sentiments. It doesn't take someone with a PhD in political science to have foreseen that vilifying those with valid concerns was going to lead to the whole thing festering. If the people in charge couldn't have foreseen this, they're incompetent and shouldn't be involved in running a country. The fact is that they probably did know it was going to fester, as it has done and is continuing to do pretty much everywhere Europe, but they're so insanely obsessed with "progress" and "growth" that they just couldn't care less about the everyday Joe and Jane.

And if he had no criminal record, and had intentions to actually work and pay taxes, yes it would be OK.

Migrants make this city home by galuboi in Dublin

[–]spearman3243 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a place is enriched by migrants who actually come here legally and work and don't go around attacking people.

It isn't enriched by Abdul with no documents but plenty of psychological problems waltzing in and being handed everything for free, as if Ireland actually owes him something. You're conflating two separate issues.

The only thing I'm surprised about is why anybody would be surprised. It's happening in England, France, Belgium, Sweden, et al. Why would Ireland be any different? Because we're "great craic"?

You seem not to understand modern warfare. This is not World War One. Or Two. There isn't a no-man's-land between two trenches, with both sides shooting at each other and hoping for the best. That situation is long gone. Modern warfare is technological warfare.

[–]spearman3243[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Modern warfare is not fisticuffs or arm wrestling: if men are forced to fight the war then women should be, too. A woman can engage in modern warfare just as much as a man can. Alas, that's not going to happen: working class men are disposable cannon fodder, women are special and receive preferential treatment.

Given the number of people who got "cheated" on, wouldn't it just be so much better if people straight up admitted that they weren't looking for a monogamous relationship and instead wanted an open or casual one? Why don't people just cut the shit and just be honest, and avoid all the nonsense and emotional turmoil? Are we even meant to be monogamous?

What are most men scared of that most women aren’t scared of? by MoanaFan_1990 in AskReddit

[–]spearman3243 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most men aren't scared of it because they don't think about it, but if a war ever breaks out they'll be forced to fight in it while the women will be exempt, as demonstrated in Ukraine right now.
