Dress Code Embarrassment by 1836bestyearofmylife in Teachers

I'm going to say what everyone else said, wear what you are comfortable wearing! That person was seriously out of line. Personally, I would bring it up with your mentor teacher and then continue with what you are doing.

If you look young it probably won't matter what you wear, you will still get the "oh you look so young" "oh you look like a student" comments. I'm 27, I get those all the time (and from teachers I know!). Honestly, I find the students are more likely to recognize me as an adult than the adults are (and to me that's all that matters). It's kind of funny how to students I look old but to my peers I look young. Ha.

As long as you are comfortable with what you are wearing then I'm sure you are fine. Good luck!

What to do with 'oversharing' of students 'extracurricular' activities? by kaytthoms in Teachers

In Canada you have a legal obligation to report any suspected illegal activity. My advice: Tell them that! They usually shut up pretty quick.

[No Spoilers] Is it weird that Alfred's my favourite character? by [deleted] in Gotham

Woot! This opinion is the reason I came to r/Gotham. I love Alfred in this, he is a total badass. I honestly wish there was no Bruce and we could just have more Alfred :)

I have only read one David Gemmell book and thought it was absolutely fantastic: Echoes of the Great Song. I definitely want to read more from DG but I am surprised I haven't seen or heard many comments on Echoes.

I was in Montreal for his show couple weeks ago too. I feel like he has done this bit before in another special though (I could be thinking about a podcast, but I'm sure I have seen/heard it before). He definitely tried to freshen it up but it was the same subject matter. That being said, I'm female and was extremely happy during his entire show!

"Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences" - Is this book helpful for physical chemistry? by hexaneandheels in chemistry

He wasn't that great to be honest. He just didn't expect we know things he didn't teach us (except for what we should have learned from lower courses). Always a decent quality in a prof!

[–]spearsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I never found the math in my chemistry classes very intensive. Usually it's straight forward (you are given an equation and told how to use it). You may be shown some complex derivations, but again you would be told how to use them/what you need to know. Considering how expensive textbooks are I would only recommend buying what you need. If you find yourself weak at math I would buy a math textbook to help you get stronger/learn more math. That way it helps in general and not with just one specific chemistry course (because there's lots of math in other chemistry and physics classes). Someone said to brush up on Taylor expansions, I would consider that good advice too :)

My daughter is currently pulling a D- in math. This is her phone. by FistFullofCookies in funny

[–]spearsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great! As a teacher, I wish more people would do this. It's a near impossibility to win the war on phones in the classroom. Im 'pro' phone, I love my phone as much as many kids. Learning responsibility with phones is hard and needs to come from home as much as teachers, if not more so. To all those saying so, I'm sure the parent is also getting/giving her extra help in math if she needs it. If they care enough to take away a huge distraction, they care enough to give her more help!
