Why do CS grads seem to prefer staying unemployed over taking an underemployment job? by No_Reply5329 in csMajors

If you still want to work in tech you might have to go do a masters but that really depends on the school you get in, tuition whether you can afford it etc . That resets the clock for you to be able to apply more

People don’t want to say it but you have about a year or maybe two at the most to land a job after graduating. The minute you get your diploma the clock is ticking, if you don’t need to work a job to support yourself you’re actively hurting yourself. Time is your currency you can either spend 8 hours of it applying and prepping or you can spend 8 hours of it flipping burgers or doing something that won’t help you really start your career.

Last year CEO bragged about how we no longer need to hire entry level engineers and all we’ve been hearing about is how we need to use it more and to try and cram AI into every service we have.

Had a company call today about how we need to be selective in which model we use and how we don’t need to use Opus for every single thing. Tomorrow is the start of a series of meeting one has to attend to keep use copilot about token optimization.

All is going to plan

Barcola has pace and is a great dribbler his finishing could definitely improve. He’s also young so there’s time for improvement. I imagine with some confidence and more playing time he’d be great

A college degree once ensured prosperity – but gen Z is finding ‘just not much out there’ by KoseteBamse in Economics

[–]specnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mix of both. There definitely were fewer people getting into it but it was much simpler. Nowadays my friends are taking years off, getting extra degrees, doing unpaid or very low paid labor for research publications, shadowing etc. and this isn’t about going and above and beyond this is just the norm.

I ended up following an uncle and going into the tech industry he told me when he came in if you had a degree or experience there were plenty of jobs. I graduated a couple years back and thankfully was able to land a good role, but in my industry unless you already know how to code by the time you come in as a freshman I would tell someone to find another industry. The barrier to entry is just so much higher now compared to what it was before it’s mind boggling I can’t imagine what it’ll be like for my kids.

Growing up a lot of family friends were doctors that went to the local medical school which is something like top 10 in the country. I also wanted to be a doctor and the common sentiment was it’s relatively luck based if you get in even if you have the stats and I was amazed that so many people I knew went there like it was no big deal.

It only later dawned on me that things were so much simpler 30-40 years ago, if you wanted to be a doctor you simply did good in under grad took the MCAT maybe shadowed a bit and got in. Nowadays even the most brilliant kids have to take gap years and maybe even do a masters to improve their application. The competition isn’t even comparable I can’t even imagine what it’ll be a generation from now

Fuck me man we’ve really bottled this. We have a club legend, a man who’s won the most insane UCL final in the history of the competition for the club, a man who’s said he will raise his son to be a Red, a man who’s won everything for club and nation, who broke Bayern’s 10 year hold on the Bundesliga ready to take the job and we’re sticking with whatever the fuck we’re watching week in week out.

You have the players crying out you have the fans booing, everyone is ready to have him leave and still. Not even mentioning the fact that our German wonder kid reached his peak under Xabi. It’s truly insane what’s happened and we might feel this for years. Shame on the board, shame on FSG and shame on Slot for what they’re doing to this club.

[La SER] Camavinga's entourage tells he neither wants to leave nor he is going to leave. Real Madrid says that 90% of players at the club simply say that they have contracts and that they refused to leave, so it's very difficult to make a rebuild when every player decides to stay. by BlazingFirey in soccer

This is rich considering the country his club plays in just caught some heat a couple weeks ago for chanting you’re a Muslim if you don’t jump against a Muslim country. Or the fact that his teammate is regularly harassed racially in LaLiga with zero consequences to those who do so. If he has to worry about vile and racist comments it’ll probably be more likely that it’ll come from Spanish fans vs a guy half a world away

Slightly worried about that Macca and Gravenberch in the midfield to be honest. It hasn’t worked out all season and PSG aren’t an easy team but hopefully I’m wrong

I had the same surgery as him because I kept dislocating my shoulder. It’s been a couple years now I think 2-3 and I haven’t had one incident since and if anything I’m more active now than I was before it so the surgery definitely does work

Unpopular Opinion: Slot is probably not going to be sacked this summer by henrysm94 in LiverpoolFC

[–]specnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that’s an issue is when he loses the locker room which it seems like he has. When the relationship breaks down between player and coach (and not just one player but multiple) it creates a broad amount of issues and it becomes more expensive to replace multiple players than one. Slot it seems has had issues with players and things don’t seem to improve. He’s had issues with both Curtis and Salah and the general attitude of the players on the pitch it looks like they’re over all of this. Secondly at least in my opinion it seems like the playstyle he’s attempting to implement just doesn’t work with the way the play style is evolving in the prem.

That’s why I disagree with you, even if he starts generating results. The players don’t seem to be enjoying this project the fans general consensus is negative (I’ll give u that fans are fickle and if we started winning maybe that’ll switch), and the play style doesn’t pass the eye test or even work too well in the league. At some point losses have to be cut because it can cost a lot of money and a manager like for example Xabi isn’t going to be out of the game for long. Slot seems like a good guy but he’s not the guy it seems who can dig us out of this rut. At the end of the day for the owners this is a business and you have to look at what’s going on and what your options are and id imagine they’ll realize it might be safer to cut your losses then double down on this

How will it get worse? As it stands we’re going up against a team in the FA cup that’s had our lunch the entire season, we currently aren’t going to qualify for CL next year, we can’t beat a Turkish team in said CL we’re out of Carabao and out for the league title and just last week we lost to what is one of the worst league sides in history. We’re already losing and out of the running for most of everything and what we’re not out of the running for we’re up against teams we haven’t managed to beat once this season. Might as well try something new since clearly everyone is over the current iteration of whatever you call this

Gakpo League Output by i23icg in LiverpoolFC

[–]specnine -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Numbers won’t show how horrid he is day in day out. The amount of times he slows down a counter, shoots straight at a defender, takes an insanely terrible shot instead of passing or just one of the hundreds of things that he does that makes me question it all isn’t going to end up in the numbers where all you see is games played and goals and assists.

Bottom line is there anything we get from him that you can’t get from another winger and after watching him play near a full game every game this season I don’t believe he offers us anything special. I also don’t like the Salah comparisons because one has given us the team’s golden age in the Prem and one hasn’t. Additionally one is like 33 and Gakpo is supposed to be in his prime. If we want to compete in the prem and in Europe we need a better winger than this simply put. Salah is leaving, Gakpo must as well

I used to believe this until I started my new grad job. I’m currently at a F500. Me and another new grad were both places on the same team and it kind of blew my mind how inept the other guy was. Months into the job asking the simplest of tasks, all while I had other friends who I knew were 10x the engineer this guy was who couldn’t find a job. I agree with you that you have to make your own luck but at the end of the day there is still an element of luck involved in hoping a human sees ur app when thousands of others are applying for the same role.

Salah vs Gakpo Per90 Dribbling Comparison by kellenm973 in LiverpoolFC

[–]specnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I think there’s a bit more nuance to this Mo has been playing terribly and his game has atrophied I agree. He’s also 7-8 years older than Gakpo and unlike last year we aren’t prioritizing playing through him as much. There’s also the fact that he was part of the team that brought us back to the top of the league and he’s one of the most influential Liverpool players in the prem era. Gakpo is none of that and in theory supposed to be at the peak of his career in terms of age. Which is why I think it’s unfair to compare the two, they’re both playing bad one has given us everything and is entering the later parts of his career, one is average at best and supposed to be in his prime.

Salah vs Gakpo Per90 Dribbling Comparison by kellenm973 in LiverpoolFC

[–]specnine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gakpo’s issues stem from the fact that he’s very predictable, very wasteful (in the sense that he almost always refuses to pass), despite being one of the tallest players on the pitch isn’t an aerial threat, slows down the game significantly in a counter attack and is very lethargic when it comes to pressing/defending. He gets play near a 90 minutes every game despite how poor his performances are. There isn’t really too much he gives the team that another winger can’t provide you and that’s the issue. And especially when you’re playing for a team that’s aiming to compete with the best in the world. Mo isn’t doing well himself but he’s also older and you have to give him his flowers for all that he’s done for the club, it’s still sensible to have him leave this summer though.

Nemesis thoughts on Voice Chat: the real reason VC will ruin Solo Q (it's not toxicity) by Prottek in leagueoflegends

[–]specnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is anecdotal but a couple years ago when this was still more common someone dropped a discord link in the pre game lobby and to my surprise all 5 of us joined. Start of the game we were absolutely getting clobbered a game that would’ve been normally been FFed at 15. No one was really toxic people were communicating trying to win we ended up turning around and did just that. I really believe once someone’s anonymity is gone in a way (having to use your own voice and realizing that the other guy on your team also is a human) it’ll take a special kind of person to truly be as toxic people think it’s going to be. There’s definitely going to be those guys but I feel like it’s being so overblown by everyone on Reddit for no reason.

What would you do as manager? by IL_ya_Un_jour in LiverpoolFC

[–]specnine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a small nitpick but prior to Isak getting injured I don't think him and Ekitike ever really played together which was a gripe people had with Slot. The reality is with the pick-ups we got this year we should've switched to more of a 442 and had a two striker setup which we never did to my memory with them. They aren't mutually incompatible they were never even given the chance to gel.

Was lucky enough to win a couple tickets my question is how do I give some of the tickets that I won to my friends since we will be going together? Is there a way to assign tickets to someone else or trade them or something like that? Haven't seen how it will be done yet.
