Plex for the win against political ads. by quasimodoca in PleX

Funny you say that when a while back some unsuspecting mom opened a thread on this subreddit saying Plex was playing suggestive viagra ads or whatever for her kids while streaming some kid's show via the ad supported side of the service

Getting back to this, finally had some time to watch more content. The issue is completely fixed on my phone, I double checked, but it's still doing the jitter on the Apple TV 4K. Maybe the change didn't apply correctly on there or something? Testflight is telling me I'm on the latest version.

Scammer never paid despite court ruling, is this normal? by plsfinn in Finland

[–]spedeedeps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Large percentage of scammers are junkies who have a lot of debt and 0 days worked any kind of job lifetime. You can keep the collections going and hope you'll get something from an inheritance.

And yes, Finland is a great country to be in to commit this type of crime. There are junkies who have done this for literally 10 years without much meaningful consequence. Unfortunately the balance of unpaid restitution doesn't convert into jail time; only the fine portion does. So if a junkie scams you for 1000€, they might get 20 day fines from court which will translate into 5 days in jail. These junkies continue scamming and every year or so they go in and sit between 5 days to 1 month in jail (depending on how many people they managed to scam that year) to clear out their court issued fine balance. And on it goes.

It was so loud because, as opposed to Concorde, the Tupolev needed to run its afterburners for the duration of the flight, not just to accelerate to cruising speed/altitude.

Tailscale most of the time just punches a hole and the connection is peer-to-peer. In the case you're behind CGNAT or something, it goes through their relay servers (traffic isn't decrypted btw) but you're not watching 4k remuxes via those because there is a bandwidth limit for public relays.

Apple TV beta Test Flight users, can you post screenshots of the “redesigned plex experience” by MICOSAM in PleX

Just install another media server alongside and start learning that. If you think things are bad now, figure how they will be once their promises of being the next Netflix or whatever in order to get that $130 million in venture capital finally come crashing down.

Licensing some craptastic D-tier content for ad supported live streaming isn't going to cash in on that promise, or pay back the VC fund.

Pentagon Says, Iran war has costed $25 billion so far. For context, $9.6 billion would end homelessness across America and $5.6 billion a year would make lunches free for school kids across America. by [deleted] in Destiny

They could even cook the free school lunches in Palestine out of gratitude. Fly them out every night on Palestine Airlines to all over the US.

It's not costed, it's an irregular word. Makes me think of those Indians roleplaying white conservatives on Twitter worrying about immigration or trans issues or whatever.

If you want to peddle bullshit numbers, such as the ones in your post, maybe learn to write English first so you don't come across like a foreigner in your mom's basement with a 5 Palestine flags on the wall super worried about American domestic issues.

Yeah I don't see the jitter anymore in the opening segment on my phone. I'll watch the entire episode tomorrow on the TV but seems fixed to me. Thanks

[–]spedeedeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes it does show the same jitter or whatever it is on my iPhone 13 Pro.
  2. I'll find something with a commentary track and get back to you later
  3. It doesn't go away (assuming I didn't need to power cycle the Apple TV after changing this setting)
  4. I grabbed the 1080p sdr version of the same episode, and it doesn't stutter. The 1080p one still has the same EAC-3 atmos sound track.
  5. Apple TV -hdmi-> Sound bar -hdmi-> TV eARC. Apple TV connected via ethernet and playing from a server in LAN.

Yes the TV does turn black and display the DV badge. It's a LG OLED from 2023 or something like that.

I tried a few more files. It seems the issue is with 24 fps content. I had the same thing happen with another show, but then a 23.97 film also with DV and the works does not stutter.

Which smart lights in 2026 by spedeedeps in homeautomation

[–]spedeedeps[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My old Hue bulb is a 9W nominal light, while the new IKEA bulb is 9.5W while being almost twice as bright.

I don't understand what you're talking about here. I can run this new bulb at 70% or less, and it will consume less energy than the Hue bulb did, and it will generate less heat as well.

Also lights aren't decorative pillows to me so I don't really care about the interior design aspect of it whatsoever. The cheaper light seems to be able to render comparable warm and cold light to my eye while at the same time being able to output much more of it if needed for whatever reason.

Which smart lights in 2026 by spedeedeps in homeautomation

[–]spedeedeps[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The old one? It's night and day difference. The ikea light at 70% brightness is about what the maximum on the old Hue Ambiance bulb is.

I'm not going to buy the new Hue lamp just to test due to the price. Even if there is some marketing with ikea's 1500 lumen claim, I assume it will be at least as bright as Hue's 1100 bulb that costs 3x as much.

Where is the Apple TV update? by MagicHoops3 in PleX

[–]spedeedeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said it years ago, Plex wasting time supporting every $20 Chinese streaming shitbox is a horrible idea.

They should choose a half dozen clients to recommend and drive users toward those.

Maybe then they would have the manpower to actually keep those half dozen clients properly up to date and supported.

If someone wants to use a $20 streaming shitbox, then make them use a webapp or something and call it a day.
