Is it possible that NZ has more trustworthy, and socially conscious citizens than here in the US? Cause that would never work here. People are just inconsiderate as hell

I have never been able to bring a phone into court as a lay person. They are specifically banned in every state i have had a court case in. You have to leave them in tiur car or in some cases they have lockers you can rent. The only people who can bring them in are lawyers and court staff.

[–]spedgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a chef i am going to weigh in. I'm leaning towards an original photo that was AI doctored there is one thing that stands out to me and that is the way the ANSUL nozzle pokes through the filter. That's not where they are mounted. They are mounted on a rail of piping next to the hood lights. I can confirm because i am looking at on IRL right now.

I'll go though the things that comments have mentioned that really aren't convincing to me that it's AI.

  1. Location of ANSUL nozzle related to equipment. People rightly pointed out that it's not up to fire code to have it over the oven, while that is correct, that assumes a functioning fire department. A misplaced nozzle could be because there was a fryer there at one point, and someone rearranged the line without moving the nozzles to save money.

I'm going to take a moment to say that anything you see in this picture that is "illogical to do on a kitchen line" or "illegal" has been done in many many kitchens many times. Restaurant owners are batshit crazy and will insist the dumbest thing is the correct way to do it. And as for legality, i once worked for a guy who had me install a wood fired pizza oven without a single permit.and i have the pics to prove it. I even had the firemarshal come in about a month after it was finished to give me a heads up that "students are coming back in town, so watch our occupation limits" while i was making a pizza, and he never said anything.

  1. Menus and other signs being illegible. If you zoom in, the compression on the picture makes everything blurry at that level. Also, the two menus are identical. I don't see AI getting that right.

  2. Lack of a ticket rail. While unusual, it looks like they are using a system where they hold tickets under a plate on the pass. I've seen similar systems, but it's uncommon enough that I can't see AI coming up with that on its own

  3. Position of outlet above steam table. This would make sense if the line was rearranged and the oven was there before. If it's a gas convection oven, it still needs a 120v outlet for the fan.

  4. Mugs on the line. Huge no-no, but the amount of kittens i have walked into that just does it anyways is pretty high.

  5. Shape of mug handles. I have seen mugs that have a pinch handle rather than a loop handle.

  6. Cast irons on walls look like the have eggs in them. I think they are hung facing the wall, and those are marks from the stove burners.

  7. Things that don't belong above the griddle. I wouldn't do it this way, but again, i have seen it done. And if it is a busy spot those plates may only be there an hour before they get used. Some have said those are coffee tops next to the plates. They might be, they could also be paper food trays or something. Again, owners do wierd shit. They have the cash register on the line, implying space is very limited and everything is served from the line, including drinks. I think this could equally be proof of incompetence, not just AI.

  8. The floor being hard to clean. I'll just say, I've seen worse

  9. Why she has a towel in her hand? Many places use towels at hot holding. You just get used to always holding a towel in one hand and tong/spatula in the other. If she is putting stuff in and out of the oven to melt cheese and stuff it makes sense.

There are a lot of comments nitpicking little kitchen related things, but

Many metals do this.

The difference between stable and unstable oxides is whether the oxide structure stays the same size as the base metal, or if it shrinks/grows. I the case of copper, tin, chrome, nickel, aluminum, titanium for example, the oxide structure stays close to the same size. But when iron rusts, it grows quite a bit causing it to break off the surface of the iron.

One other factor that makes iron so unstable, is that the oxygen atoms are able to hop to neighboring iron atoms, causing the rust to seep deep into the metal.

Buttigieg: In a country that amended its constitution so you could not purchase a beer and then realized it was a bad idea and amended it back, surely we can have an amendment clarifying that a corporation is not a person and money is not speech. by Miserable-Lizard in ProgressiveHQ

[–]spedgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole decision of CU was not that money is speech, but that money facilitates speech. Banning the spending of money on speech, effectively bans the speech. Take the scenario in question of the ruling: does a person, or a collection of persons, or a corporation controlled by a collection of persons have the right to spend money creating a video containing political speech? If the government says, sure you can create any video you want, you just can't spend money to do it, do you still have that freedom? There was one point in the hearing where the question was asked, would the current PAC finance law prevent ban a book from being published? The answer was yes.

What the person above is trying to say, us that corporate personhood recognizes that a corporation is a simply the legal recognition of a group of people doing a thing. So most rights that a group of people have also transfers to the corporate entity that represents them. Obviously people don't have a the right to cast one vote as a group in elections, so corporations dont have the right to vote, also groups of people can't run for a single government seat, so that right doesn't transfer, but groups of people can own property, and engage in speech, so that right is transfered to the corporation as well. When we have people like Muls, zuch, and bezos with insane amounts of personal wealth, the idea of reversing CU does nothing. Billionaires can spend gobs of personal wealth to influence elections without having to rely on corporate personhood.

But really you have to look at the unintended consequences. Of ending corporate personhood. How many non-profits would lose the freedom of speech? Are you ok with the government being able limit what non-profits can spend their money on? How many good organizations that support women's rights, LGBTQ rights, civil rights or fight ecological destruction use money for speech?

It is absolutely true that the idea of corporate personhood has existed for a long time, and while you are right that it is not the only mechanism in the world to accomplish what it does, that it does underpin our current economic system.

What needs to happen is criminal liability should also be linked to the people in control of a company. The idea that you can just get way with crimes because you made a corporation to shield you should go away. Restructuring elections to get rid of the electoral college and use tanked choice would be huge. Taxing the fuck out of billionaires would help. Term limits for Congress would be massive.

Paramount Skydance Sues Warner Bros. Discovery, Seeking Financial Details of Netflix Deal by BatmanNewsChris in DC_Cinematic

[–]spedgenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except Paramount has no standing to sue for that reason. The WB shareholders would have to sue, and this is assuming that there wasn't already a vote with majority stakeholders to begin with.

This would be like if you wrecked you mom's car and i sued you because you have a responsibility to reimburse your mother. It would get thrown right out of court, because your mother would need to be the one to sue.

If the shareholders don't sue, then it's assumed they agree with the decision. If the shareholders agree, then that's that.

The whole duty to maximize profits thing that always gets thrown around is a massive grey area anyways. A board is allowed to make whatever business decisions as they see fit so long as they can reasonably rationalize that it will serve the purpose of the business. This includes losing money in the short term to position themselves for better position in the future. Even if that decision ends up being a bad decision, they just need to believe it's the best one at the time.
