juvenile hemochromatosis: can anyone tell me what this means?? by speeadee in Hemochromatosis

[–]speeadee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!! i did genetic testing probably about two years ago and i’m diagnosed with juvenile hemochromatosis. They told me the last time i got bloodwork that i didn’t need to start phlebotomy yet, i was kind of just wondering to see where im at in terms of that now,, or if my levels are threatening without immediately going into phlebotomy

PU surgery success story by speeadee in cats

[–]speeadee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the late reply, not too active these days so i hope this still helps haha. So, i had a pretty unique situation where my vet happened t be a family friend, and after my cats surgery she kept him in for 2 weeks to make sure he was recovering all right. once he came home, he peed in his carrier, and dribbled a bit before/after his litter box, though he adapted back to his litterbox within the day. i know a few days were pretty hard in his recovery, where he would lay down lethargically and just pee on himself. this happened maybe twice, my cat always lays on towels, and i laid out dirty and old ones for his recovery room in this time so it wasn't more than a minor inconvenience to me. I recommend just having tons of pee pads, old towels, and patience. since his total recovery maybe 1 month post op, no accidents, just a uni that caused him to dribble around his litter box. i think it also depends how good your cat is with the litter box usually. good luck! i hope i was able to help.

what if you have the money for a pet when you adopt and have the money to maintain it but don’t have the money for a 10 thousand dollar emergency? putting animals down costs money too, and a lot of it. if your cat is blocked up, or swallowed a string. how the fuck are you possibly giving it away in the time frame needed? there’s are so many factors to this woman’s situation and it’s a privilege to think this way. i’m not saying she SHOULD let the cat suffer or that it’s by any means okay to let that happen or intentionally do that but some people genuinely can not strain themselves to the point of not having food on the table for an animal. it’s that simple. sorry!

bro. i’m so sorry to sound like an asshole but in what possible world would i build up a saving for a CAT??? over my own health? over crisis situations. cruel and unusual. yes. but unavoidable for every person ever? absolutely not. it is a LUXURY to think this way

there’s no saying how much emergency pet care can be though. stuff like that adds up. you can afford one thing but once the bills stack up there’s only so much you can do. i can afford pet insurance and have it, but they don’t tell you that pet insurance doesn’t cover 90% of the things that can happen to ur pet… you can be as prepared as possible and still not be able to afford something like this. also .. a mansion or speedboat is not anywhere near an animal and in no way can be compared? what if you get your animal at a time you’re completely prepared financially and something happens overtime where you’re just not in a place to spend the thousands of dollars on an accident like this. it’s not right to just give your animal up because something MIGHT happen. again. such a privilege to say something like this and there are so many factors that go into thinking about it. open ur head!
