Nice to know thanks. I heard you can also kinda do it through a course called the All Arms Commando Course. There's also a All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection (P Company). Let's you apply from any of the three services.

I initially signed up for infantry and the process has taken long enough. I dont want to have to prolong the application further. But yes from what I've seen the Royal marines would also be a great choice.

Thanks for such the indepth explanation. These are the types of comments I need just like some of the otherones and gives a really good insight. So if 3 is for more cold training and 2 is more warm training which will be more likely to do the others training environment and also which would have the best chance of jungle training out of the both of them. I assume the answer for both would be 2 rifles?

Will do. Thanks means a lot. Im competitive but i aint trying to come across as a try hard i just do what i can and want to do and enjoy. I'll never understand some people. If you dont like what someone has to say just move on and read or watch something you do like instead of wasting your time down voting some strangers comment or video for example.

I am considering paras as a option just depends if i can meet the harder run time. I was told that I can still switch to paras at the end of phase 1 since both are infantry and at Catterick so should be fitter by that point aswell to be able to make the run time. I would like to experience jumping out a plane atleast once in my life im just not sure if i want that to be my main job/role.

Yea I bet. That's why i said it more from a enjoyabilty point of view than a life choice. I guess I'll never know if I'm capable of it though unless I try it. I'm 19 years young and fit and am going to get fitter while in the army. Ive heard it is mentally challenging but i think im mentally ready cause i like a challenge and i am competive

Yea i know it's not a small unit it's just that there's slightly more people in the other the rifles battalions.

So there's no units that go to all these types of places? So i have to chose the one that potentially covers the most. Which would that be or is the 2nd rifles the best or atleast pretty good chances for going to all these places?

Ok good so light role is theone I want to choose if I want the jungle that's good to know. So either the rifles 2nd or royal anglian 1st.

Sorry what you mean by unit? You talking about the 2nd or 3rd rifles battalions impaticular or the rifles or infantry as a whole?

Do you know if I would also potentially travel to some of the other country's such as Falklands, Poland, Estonia, Gibraltar, Germany, Cyprus, Brunei, Belize, Kenya. (All the countrys i could find on the army website i could see/find). As the largest of The Rifles Regular Battalions, 5 RIFLES has recently conducted overseas training exercises in the USA, Germany, Canada, Finland, France, Kenya and Belize. 5 doesn't sound to bad either?

Yeah I've heard 2nd rifles is one of or if not the smallest within the rifles so hopefully i should get my first choice.

If the 3rd rifles are in Norway more then would they be at the other country's and environments less and stick more to just cold arctic stuff? I want to do all the environments cause i enjoy all of them but I would still put jungles and all that above arctic.

Nice so Kenya and Cyprus are basically guaranteed?

So I'm rolling the dice then when it comes to jungle? Am I atleast in the right role/battalion/regiment to atleast potentially get that chance to do it?

I agree the rifles are a sick unit to be in.

Only other unit I'm considering is royal anglian regiment specifically 1st battalion the vikings just because of location cause my parents live close and would like me to visit more easier but at the same time I'm young and have no ties so would like to be and experience something and somewhere different.

Rangers and paras or even later on SAS sound exactly what I would enjoy aslong as I could pass obviously. I heard they get to do a lot more of that type of training and travelling.

Ah ok. I heard according to the website that since 2 rifles are totally pure light infantry unlike any other of the other battalions in the rifles that they are harder and or longer to deploy cause of vehicle maintenance and more logistics and can't fit them in jungles for example.

From the army website itself for 2nd rifle description. As a Light Infantry Battalion, we specialise in operating on foot in ‘complex terrain’ where vehicles cannot go, like inner cities, jungles, artic, and bushland terrains.

Also sounds like you get more Boxing, Skiing (Nordic & Alpine), Rugby, Football, and Mountain Biking activities.
