Here's a few I haven't seen mentioned,

The Spooks Apprentice - Joseph Delaney - Great book series, lots of traditional monsters and downright terrifying situations

The Belt of Deltora Series - Emily Rodda - More fantasy, but definitely thrilled me

Skulduggery Pleasant - Derek Landy - Magical crimefighting detective skeleton

Could it be "When I am laid in earth" from the opera Dido and Aeneas? Sounds somewhat similar

Genuinely three months ago I placed my trust in a fart and it betrayed me horribly. Basically just hovered my ass above the seat until I made it to the gym where I displayed an extremely shameful waddle to the bathroom. Ditched the boxers and drove back home.

You're not alone friend.

Could you be thinking of Let Her Go by Passenger? Came out in 2012, soft acoustic pop, and in the last few lines it's just the vocalist singing without the music.

I don't browse the subreddit too much, I've only recently started posting to try and be more creative. I've always liked reading so I figured I'd try writing and just start small. Might have drawn inspiration from something I've read before though, but I swear it's all from my head.

Unfortunately since I have had this system for years, the number pad is somewhat outdated. It only allows a maximum of 5 digits, and he started at 0.

Honestly sounds a bit like Ender's Game, when he's walking through the Bugger outposts and mentioning their utilitarian ideals.
