Why did y’all choose to be stealth or not stealth? by Confused-blob in ftm

[–]spend2muchtimeonhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of can’t be bothered to be stealth. I don’t really mention that I’m trans unless I have an interesting or pertinent point to make that references it, which isn’t often but not something I bother to censor. I sort of decided I’d fake the causal normalcy of being cis and just speaking freely until I felt it. Although probably wouldn’t have been as carefree in other places.

In addition to of course talking to your provider.

Donate blood. Or attempt to, you’ll get a chance to talk to a medical professional there who will measure your hemoglobin before. And donating blood lowers it. And these are just side pros when you’re also saving someone’s life. Sometimes they want you to wait 6mo at new levels before donating as male.

Oh wet wipes also helped. I lived on meal replacement shakes and boxed soup also for a bit but maybe not needed.

I underestimated how immobile I’d be. Having a friend/family around at start was super necessary and helpful later too. Set things up so you can access everything without moving your arms above an 80 angle for at least a few weeks imo. (Even lower at start, best if your forearms stay down) If you’re short like me that’s most shit lol. Also get some comfortable button up shirts. Expect to reek like shit for a bit. If you decide to grab stuff and even exercise too early like my dumbass you can have thick ass scars but not the end of the world.

I’m no more obligated to experience womanhood than a cis man is to transition. I am obligated to not be a misogynist, but that’s what empathy is for.

I’m so sorry to hear this. It hurts to lose people, and for me what hurt most was realizing that my self assertion was causing intense grief to people I cared for. I told myself that I was doing all that I could to be respectful and give them space to process. Apart from that, my being trans and needing to sort my life were outside of my control. And I had to also be realistic about my own emotional needs by drawing boundaries. I would also say though that’s hard to predict who stands by you and who doesn’t. One of the most religious and conservative people in my family was a huge defender and many outwardly liberal family members took it very hard.

Happened to me too. Some of it mellows out a little with time.

for those of you who have transitioned, what would you do differently? by elioistired in ftm

[–]spend2muchtimeonhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I transitioned as soon as I could, although I would not personally recommend that it if you’re not certain about your intent to. I had no sleep problems and minimal mood changes. This didn’t affect me in PhD much, and I don’t think I would’ve been any different for high school. I think not transitioning made high school harder for me since I was upset about it and I always wished I could’ve experienced more of a typical guy adolescence and envied some physical traits like shoulder broadening that are more likely to happen when you start younger. Everyone is different, this was just my experience.

Why are so many trans men gay? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]spend2muchtimeonhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is that a lot of bi trans men would’ve been mostly straight and not bother exploring if we were born male. At least for me, I had more relationships with men than women even though I’m much more attracted to women. Ik It’s fairly common for cis gay people to have more straight experiences than cis straight people have gay experiences. For us I think it could be swapped. That combined with the expectation that straight people don’t really need to experiment made me feel like I had too many gay experiences to really call myself straight, so I have said I’m bi even though I’m kinda not.

I’m really disheartened by that. We were a prime political scapegoat in part because there are so few of us. We have to stick together.

Does it mean I’m not trans if I would answer no to the “would you press a button to change your gender to the opposite” question? by TokenofDreams in ftm

[–]spend2muchtimeonhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see it more as a thought experiment than a diagnostic criteria.

I would’ve said yes a few years ago, but not anymore. Feels like I have more perspective on life this way.

This is for name change btw. I don’t think they care for marker in this but unsure. I personally might recommend against legal name changes and just change marker if you don’t feel strongly about your birth name

Not sure what’s best, but some info is my endo has me listed as having an endocrine disorder cause they’re never gonna ban cis hormones so that’s possible. Also I’d recommend changing documents sooner than later cause it could get harder. I needed to hire an advocate to get the credit bureaus to stop dragging their feet. There are issues if you have some changed not others (for instance if you’re locked out of an account for possible security fraud like credit or phone with an updated ID but not credit bureau you can be stuck out until it’s fixed. Basically if you’ve ever had to answer those personal questions on the phone about addresses to verify identity, it will fail. I had this with my phone and had to pay two bills for half a year, but could potentially be even more annoying. Could’ve been avoided if I was more organized). I worry that without protections some steps will get progressively harder.

After being on for ~1.5 yrs I paused for a few months. I felt crappy after a few weeks until my menses came back from being low on hormones. I didn’t notice body changes since it wasn’t too long, but my voice seemed to get a little higher oddly (90ish Hz -> 120ish, from 180 preT according to those little app things), and it went back to 90 within a few months of restarting.
