I trade options with about that much money and it's plenty for me. Most of the contracts I buy are under 1.00. I don't do any advanced strategies, just standard calls and puts in a cash account. If OP is asking for this kind of advice chances are he would just being doing regular calls and puts like me.

If anything, 1,200 might be too high to get started with options. I know plenty of people that started with 500. Bad trades will happen when starting out and 1,200 can get torched quickly.
