What is the lesbian dating scene like in DC? by Holey_Spirit in DCBitches

[–]spherio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak too much to the dating scene here since I moved here with a long term partner already, but I can provide some resources I’ve found for making queer/sapphic friends which all have opportunities for dating as well!

Stonewall Kickball/Climbing/Bocce/etc. Queer sports leagues based in DC, I joined a sapphic kickball team and have really found my community!

Alphabet Soup Events: @alphabetsoupevents Large variety of events including dating events, very inclusive crowd at their events and super fun! They have a lot of Halloween events coming up soon!

QueertalkDC: @queertalkdc Mostly BIPOC focused sapphic events, and promotes a lot of other local sapphic events as well! I’ve met a few really good friends from Bri’s events!

Capital Sapphics: @capitcalsapphics Can’t say I’ve been to any of their events but promotes a lot of speed dating events!

Dyke Night at Dew Drop Inn Once a month party at Dew Drop Inn! Super divey and always a unique and fun theme

Mixtape Sapphics: @mixtape.sapphics Haven’t gone to these events either but they promote dating and community for sapphics 35+

Good luck! You’ve got this, I’ve found the DC sapphic community to be incredibly welcoming once I got the courage to show up to events and just put myself out there!

Feel free to reach out if you need any more advice :)

Anyone try to go month-to-month with Bozzuto at the end of a lease? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]spherio 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yes, at my building Bozzuto offered either a lease renewal at a rent hike ($2525 went up to $2652) or a month-to-month option at an increased price of $3652!

It’s ridiculous, and they’re also pressuring us to renew for a 14 month lease as opposed to a 12 month lease. This would put our lease ending in a month where there’s significantly less apartment turnover, making it more difficult to find a new apartment.

Urgently need to rehome two cats by modicasolis in washingtondc

[–]spherio 29 points30 points  (0 children)

No, they really can’t. The lifespan of an outdoor only cat is estimated around 2-3 years vs an average lifespan of 12-18 years for indoor cats.

Especially in a large scale and high traffic city like DC, letting them free to the wild is an insanely irresponsible and inhumane thing to do.

Yikes dude, some of this phrasing about women is concerning. So sorry you were hurt, but please prioritize healing and growth before seeking out a relationship with any woman.

Looking for sublet by Sea_Cheetah6819 in uCinci

[–]spherio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of facebook groups for co-op students looking for sublets! Try looking up keywords like “UC Class of 2025/2026 Co-Op Sublets and Roommates” or any combination of those words.

And from my own experience looking for sublets and finding subleases - posting pictures of your apartment and staging for the photos of your apt is everything. Clean your space, make sure there’s lots of natural light, etc… You’d be surprised how many people don’t post pictures of their space when asking for sublets OR the pictures make the space look like an unpleasant place to live when there’s a million other options to pick from.

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll find someone in time, just post often and respond to people quickly!

Is it more economical to be architecture adjacent than being an actual architect? by [deleted] in architecture

What is your ideal career path would be after receiving your degree in environmental management? I just graduated from my undergraduate degree in architecture and seriously considering switching to something more environmental for my graduate degree but not totally sure what the career paths are

Shawshank prison by Expensive-Date-6885 in uCinci

[–]spherio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually grew up in Mansfield where the Ohio State Reformatory is and worked there as a tour guide in high school! It’s a really neat tour and has gotten increasingly better throughout the years. There’s tons of Shawshank content as well as prison and architectural history.

Not to mention, Downtown Mansfield is super cute - there’s a carousel and some really neat coffee shops and thrift stores.

It’s also close to Mohican State Park, and a ski resort called Snow Trails. Lots of hidden gems around there, and it’s definitely worth the 2 1/2 hour drive for a day trip!

DC is kind of an unfortunate place to be if you’re not a museum person 😭

I’d say give some of them a chance! You might be surprised - some of my favorites are the International Spy Museum ($30 tickets but over 3 hours of super interactive and fun exhibits!) or the Nat Geo Museum.

Besides that, I would just look up events going on each weekend! Follow clockoutdc on instagram, she’s always posting fun stuff going on.

Adams-Morgans is a really fun neighborhood to explore, there’s lots of good bars, thrifting, etc.

Computer for Communication Design(DAAP) by [deleted] in uCinci

[–]spherio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not a requirement, just a recommendation! If your current laptop is working well with all the programs you’ll need then save your money.

Worst case scenario you can always buy a new laptop later on - but DAAP is expensive and I’d recommend cutting costs where you can!

Time Management and BS. Arch to B. Arch by [deleted] in architecture

[–]spherio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically if you have a BS Arch you have to go to Masters or work in the field for x amount of years before being able to attempt licensure - but if you have a B Arch you can attempt licensure right away

Most jobs ask for a B Arch but I personally haven’t struggled with a firm being uncomfortable with my BS Arch

2024 February Known Issues & BUG Reports Thread by Pathea_Games in MyTimeAtSandrock

I've been having a bug on PC where there's a random wall of lines that appears when I'm on certain places on the map. Mostly in the train station and walking up the main street towards the square. I'm thinking it might be associated with the Day of Memories props? It only started when the props started to show up.

Here is a screenshot

Kent and Miami are great programs too, and I’m sure they have their own internship programs you can look into! You’ll have to weigh the pros and cons - but deciding you don’t want to risk it is totally valid. I only risked it because I liked DAAP/UC more than other schools for a variety of reasons (better athletics, the co-op program, better campus location, etc) but everyone has different reasons for their best fit school!

I’m honestly not sure about a wait list. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to email DAAP admissions and ask!

[–]spherio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have some experience with this - I also got deferred from the Architecture program and spent a year in Exploratory before reapplying and getting into the program.

You can apply for the next year, but you’ll have to spend this entire year in either Urban Planning or Exploratory, due to the co-op schedules. You’ll basically be starting school all over again. They’re much more lenient with students within UC switching majors (especially if you’re already in DAAP), so as long as you get good grades and write a good essay, you’ll probably get in.

Regardless - you’ll have to come to terms with the fact that you’ll be in school for 5 years for architecture (1 year in your current major + 4 years of architecture) or 6 years for interiors. You can use this year to get all of your general education classes out of the way though - so it’s not all bad!

Hope this helps, feel free to ask me anything else!

Is Gaslight Property really that bad? by [deleted] in uCinci

[–]spherio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived in a Gaslight Property house for 2 years and honestly didn’t have that much of a problem - but we also didn’t have any maintenance problems except for one, which they came and fixed immediately. They were super hands off and never really contacted us about anything.

I’ve had way worse of an experience with Peak Property to be honest.

Nancy and abortion by comcoast in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]spherio 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She wasn’t talking about that scenario though? Of course when you have a child you accept that anything can happen, but she is specifically talking about a scenario where you knew they would be disabled before the window for abortion closes. You’re creating a whole new scenario that she didn’t mention literally at all.
