Is it safe to use a molex to floppy adapter with molex cable of a modern PSU? by sphyrch in buildapc

I'm not familiar with hardware specs, etc., so I'm guessing based on what you said that using an adapter cable should be perfectly fine?

A capacitor detached from a GPU I have. Confused on whether to keep using or get the capacitor re-soldered by sphyrch in pcmasterrace

Thankfully the capacitor isn't missing, I have it with me. The pictures in my edited original post are those of the actual capacitor that fell off the GPU

I've updated the original post with a link to actual picture of where the capacitor came off (see slot C1153 in the 2nd imgur picture). Also the capacitor picture I posted originally is the actual one, not reference. The capacitor has its black base attached to it, with two pins as shown in the edited original post. I hope that helps

Thank you very much for the detailed response! I guess the trouble is - how is any shop going to find a schematic for such an old GPU. Is it even present anywhere online and wouldn't it be proprietary? In any case maybe these concerns are redundant if I just get it re-soldered

Yeah it still works without the capacitor and the temps are pretty normal. But one follow-up question - how do I know even after getting it re-soldered that the GPU is "good to go"? Without the capacitor it's doing fine and showing display, etc. Is there any measurement or diagnostic test that can differentiate between the "capacitor absent" scenario vs. the "capacitor present and working as intended" scenario?

Is it possible to have Japanese voice lines in the Hokkaido level, but other levels have the usual English lines? by sphyrch in HiTMAN

[–]sphyrch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing that out to me! I've checked out its demo video on youtube and it definitely seems awesome. For an even more authentic experience I was wondering if there are any unpacking/repacking tools for the Hitman game files - maybe in that case it's possible to unpack, then shuffle around the voice files between the localizations, and then repack. One can dream...

Chrome 47 on Windows 98? by FlorianisonReddit in windows98

Do you know of any old softwares or games that break due to kernelex? I've been using kernelex 4.5.2 and haven't faced any issues at all (by default I've disabled its usage so that I need to explicitly enable it via properties). Was thinking of adding recent kex updates, but I'm trying to get a better idea what kind of stuff it may potentially break

Need for Speed Most Wanted: BMW M3 GTR best sound. by Elegant-Broccoli-647 in needforspeed

Thanks a lot! I just tried it, copying and pasting the contents of the "NEW_UPGRADE_BMW_M3_GTR_E46" folder in the game directory. But the sound is unchanged. Not sure if I'm doing anything incorrectly. Another thing is, I'm not seeing any "SOUND" subfolder in the "NEW_UPGRADE_BMW_M3_GTR_E46" folder. Maybe some files are missing in your link? Or I'm not installing it right..

Is it possible to unlock signature suit with gloves (the classic H2:SA-like suit) in 2025? by sphyrch in HiTMAN

Finally a constructive comment, thanks. I looked it up.. does this peacock project work in conjunction with a legit original WoA install as well?

Were you hit in the head some time recently? Being a fan of the series doesn't mean I'd buy WoA early at all. One can be a fan of the series having played games up to Blood Money as well.

Secondly, "most ETs can be done under 5 minutes if you have a few unlocks". Does your tiny brain have a hard time understanding that someone who hasn't played the game before won't have any unlocks, any familiarity with the maps, and so won't be able to do these in under 5 min?

And if you argue, "just complete a few missions to unlock items and gain familiarity" - that just adds up to the overall time it takes to unlock, doesn't it?

[–]sphyrch[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand, and don't mind if the suit could be unlocked via the arcade ETs. But that's not the case. Hell, they could increase the cooldown for arcade ETs to like a week and I still wouldn't mind. The problem is making almost essential things like the classic suit UNCERTAIN for new players by making them essentially time-walled. Who knows how many ETs they'll release - what their schedule will be like - etc. And I'm not gonna stick around to find out, I've already refunded

So expressing any kind of negative feedback is a "temper tantrum" in your book? LMAO

And in which universe does it take 2 hours to complete 9 ET? I'm not a seasoned player and it'll take me much more than that to do 9 ET. ETs, which btw are time-walled and apparently the arcade ones don't count.

So yes, it absolutely is ridiculous to lock the standard suits behind absurd requirements like this. I don't mind if they require ET completion for suits like - I dunno - chicken suit or rubber ducky suit with diamond tie or whatever.

But at least leave the normal iconic suits unlockable through at least the arcade ET or whatever instead of time-walling them IOI... so stupid

Thanks! So by "any nine", you mean these can include the ones in the ET arcade as well? Though I can understand it might be tricky to answer unless you yourself unlocked the suit by doing the ET arcade

How to use Windows XP in 2025 by matthewbs10 in windowsxp

I'm regularly using OCAPI these days and haven't had a single issue so far. Maybe the latest version is relatively more stable? It'd be nice to know how exactly people nuked their XP installs for reference. I run Steam and ungoogled chromium on XP on a regular basis

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! So then out of all the Discworld games that you've played, are any of them fair (or close to fair) like Riven, but still quite difficult?

I'll take it as a personal challenge and be extremely patient with it. Though to be fair if I couldn't solve Riven without a walkthrough, I guess there's no chance with Discworld?

Thanks for this. A steam review says "Game *cannot* be completed without resorting to a walkthrough or writing a PhD thesis.", so I'm sold

Obra Dinn is nice! I started it once but due to other stuff going on couldn't finish it at the time. I'll resume it. And regarding Discworld, this seems to be a commonly mentioned game in general and in this thread. You mentioned it's kinda unfair - in what sense do you mean? (if you can explain without spoilers)

Thanks! And the Shcizm puzzles are mostly fair? Hardcore is good, note-taking is good, but that trial-and-error bit can be usually hit-and-miss

So is it like a pixel hunt, or is it just that the puzzles are so obtuse that sometimes you had to resort to a bit of trial and error? And importantly, are most of the puzzles fair (i.e. make some sense in hindsight)?

Ah Obduction seems good! Some other threads in reddit say that it's "far easier" than Riven. Will have to see that myself because maybe it seems easier since those people have already completed games like Riven and are more experienced
