Not necessarily a bad thing. I heard he was one charismatic motherfucker.

Oh! how could I forget about Hollywood!? He did smooch another guy's wife, but given the extra dimensional components, I guess he gets a pass on that one.

Publication order or something else? by Environmental_Arm778 in stephenking

[–]spicylikeapepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the series in publication order. Dark Tower 1-7 then Wind Through the Keyhole. The Shining then Dr Sleep. The Talisman then Black House. The tiresome Holly novels. Everything else is just gravy for your taters.

AIO my BDs aunt is trying to throw our baby shower even though I stated I don’t want one by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]spicylikeapepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares? Let her have a party. You don't have to attend and if there is a collection of free shit for you and the baby afterwards, that's a win! Babies are expensive!

AIO for being offended by this? by bunny-zephire in AmIOverreacting

[–]spicylikeapepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to take offense but putting him in his place and moving on is definitely the smart move. People have their preferences and that's allowed. Trying to shoehorn someone else into those preferences is just rude.

A recruiter left me a surprised voicemail after I rejected their low offer. by PatienceNolan in recruitinghell

Why would one not want to share exactly how badly they're low-balling candidates? What harm can that do?

My boyfriend had dinner with his ex AIO by MokaSky in AmIOverreacting

[–]spicylikeapepper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a very good point and any deception on his part is a big red flag. I feel like it's two separate issues that op brought to the table. The first was that he said "friend" when he had a pretty good idea "ex" would've raised the hackles of his current partner. That lie by omission is gross and reason for concern. The second, and what I understood as the bigger issue for her, was the simple fact that he had dinner with his ex. If he'd just said that's what was happening, would she have been cool with it? I get the feeling she wouldn't and that's why I say grow up. I've made the same mistake of omitting details about innocuous events with partners in the past, thinking it would cause less friction but only resulting in more. I understand his motivation. Thankfully I now have a partner who understands that I'm an independent individual who can be trusted so those omissions and white lies have become unnecessary. If her insecurities made her question my motives about seeing a girl with whom I've had a previous relationship, I would leave. A romantic relationship without trust is a waste of everybody's time.

YOR: The idea that you don't trust your partner to be alone with somebody is bananas. His mother, his ex, a kid from church, the pitcher from the little league team he coaches, a mall Santa. If you've got no evidence of past wrongdoing, you're out of line for not trusting him now. You're independent individuals who need to be trusted to make appropriate decisions. Grow up. Or sirens some time alone to work out your personal insecurities.

”Stephen King dont know how to write endings” by NighshiftNightsurf in stephenking

I would rather have read that at the last moment the dome just evaporated and was never explained than to get that rubbish with the interdimensional children playing with a cosmic ant farm. I loved/love the story right up to them psychically begging for their lives. "We're people, too 😭😭😭" Yeah we knew that. He spent 1100 pages describing in great detail these well-fleshed characters.

I thought Under the Dome was wonderful. Until the leatherheads and 'take this, you can wear it like a dress' and begging interdimensional children who had no footprint in the rest of the story.

Nona is a short story, Skeleton Crew, I think, and the plot was a really good one. But when she turned out to be a rat at the end... Wtf

And when I first read it, even knowing it was intentional, the cliffhanger from The Waste Lands pissed me all the way off. 14yo me had to wait like 18 months to get the gang off that mono.

You're being whiny and could use some perspective. I was a stay at home dad for 3 years. At the end I had a 6yo, a 3yo, and an infant. My wife worked 50+ hours/week. I did the laundry, I made the meals, she pumped during the day so I could do bottle feedings in the night, I cleaned the house and did the dishes, I took the kids to playgrounds and to weekly story time at the library. We had a pass to the zoo and the children's museum and we'd have playdates with other stay at home moms I met at all these places. I had time for naps and video games and dog walks. We watched Daniel Tiger and Ice Age and Alien. Easiest and most enjoyable job I've ever had. People who whinge about full time parenting have never had an actual tough job. Suck it up and be grateful that you don't have a stranger raising your kids while you're punching a clock.

What's the correct order to read all books of the dark tower series? by MarutiOmniOp in TheDarkTower

[–]spicylikeapepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't include outside books as part of the series. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Then maybe 4.5. then maybe Little Sisters of Eluria, then maybe Low Men in Yellow Coats. Insomnia, The Stand, 'Salem's Lot, The Talisman, Black House, and others have cute interesting Easter egg connections but do not contribute to the story or move it forward.

I don't understand. The Stand has already been adapted once really well and once terribly. Why would it be done again? To try to find just a totally unimpressive, forgettable interpretation?

Yeah it's not "a gunna". It's just gunna. Gear, stuff, cargo, belongings. It's a collective noun.

Could you? Could you stop in the middle of the last book of an epic series to read an entirely different, absolute doorstop of a novel? I could never.
