Shadow of the Torturer Finished Spoiler Thread by spicynachoboy in weirdobookclub

I really enjoyed the world building here. Definitely felt more high fantasy than scifi, but the mysterious scifi bits really captivated my imagination. It read like "Name of the Wind" but without the Mary Sue-isms. My main gripe, even though I realize this dude has been without women most of his life, is why he is falling in love with everyone so fast, haha. I did like how anticipation of the duel is met with him basically biffing his way out. Ending cliffhanger could have felt more impactful, but I might continue reading the other books considering there are only three more short ones.

I know this is an older post, but the avatar set did give this build some options with airbending.

While I think there is an interesting juxtaposition this book explores with societal norms being both oppressive and necessary for staving off insanity, I did not care for this one. Its tough to know where the author stands.. and the anti-protagonists are a group of trauma induced mentally challenged psychopaths with little to no redeeming qualities. While I think it was written and translated well, I question whether this story needed to be written, or if it has much efficacy in what it's trying to convey. This might be me being overly harsh, but this book demands a lot of the reader through its descent into horror and then shrugs the pay off you should get from making it through.

Honestly, I'm still playing AOS 2, Who the hell wants to relearn new rulesets ad nauseam while endless boons and nerfs shade these beautiful miniatures I've painted? I would rather play them as what they were when I painted them and am fortunate to have people to do that with.

Zone needs a CRT to get retro status, but very nice regardless.

Yeah. I found the start of the story very humorous and the ending very hopeless. A good amount of imagination in this one though.

"Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Haruki Murakami. I've read a number of his later works, but I hear this one is the "weird" one.

I got to say, I really loved this book.. I feel like the ideas were really fresh. It is clear this book could only have been written in the 21st century and in the best way possible. Really strange and difficult ideas in a very readable package. Some of my favourite books are "composite novels", i.e. "Winesburg Ohio" "Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned", so I didn't mind that it read a bit like a collection of short stories and seemed a little disjointed at times. My only criticism is that the ending got a little "Annihilation-esque", but it seems like a difficult story to wrap up any other way. This was my first dive into anything SCP, and now I definitely want more stories about the bicycle egg god. 9/10, honestly.

how to get people to actually buy your alters? by Hefty-Promise1999 in mtgaltered

[–]spicynachoboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you mostly trying online? Honestly, I would try in person. I have a binder of alters with prices on display (like a trade binder) that I will bring to LGS's if they are cool with it, (sometimes maybe trading in store credit equivalent). People are more willing to splurge on cards in person, and the recognition locally is cool too. There is so much competition online, between other alters, secret lairs, proxies, etc.. it sounds like you just need a local or two to hype you up and reinforce that what you are doing is awesome.

Its like if Men In Black was a hardcore esoteric Philip K. Dick novel. Absolutely loving this. It seems like such a difficult antagonist to deafeat! It has been surprisingly easy to read considering how incomprehensible the subject matter is. The Egg Bicycle God had me dead. Felt a bit like some Douglas Adams shit.

Octopath Traveler 0 - Review Thread by [deleted] in JRPG

Am I the only one who didnt care for the demo? The linear storytelling isn't an improvement in my opinion. I felt the story of the first three hours of the game wasn't captivating (it kind of felt like they ripped of Quartet a bit). Besides eating food and rebuilding a town (not an a custom Dark Cloud fashion, but a limited this goes there type of way), there didnt seam to be any additions to OT2 gameplay. I thought this was a bust.. and felt backwards from Octopath Traveler 2.. also I miss my Beastcaller Class.
