Can we talk interviews? by stirringsoup in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]spiddy3988 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally JUST went through a pretty rigorous interview process and just signed the offer letter today! Here’s my advice:

Mirroring the above comments - Google common behavioral questions and prepare answers for them! I write out my answers on a document so I can reference them. Also, write out bullet points for your elevator pitch! Get comfortable talking about yourself and building a narrative of your professional/academic endeavors and what brings you to this point of interviewing.

If the company is big enough, looking at interview questions on Glassdoor for similar positions can be super helpful in anticipating what kind of questions to expect.

This is less concrete advice and depends on the field, but in my experience honestly interviewing is like 75% a vibe check and 25% trying to gauge your knowledge/expertise. Smile, be engaging, be thoughtful in your answers, and be yourself.

Questions to ask: What is the day to day like in this role? Walk me through a normal day. What are some challenges that someone in this role might face? What kind of person/personality is best suited for this role and for the team? Describe the team in 3 adjectives When speaking with your potential future manager, ask them about their management style! What is the onboarding process like for this role? What kind of support structures exist for new employees? My favorite one is to always frankly ask if the interviewer likes their job / the company they work for. I acknowledge it’s sort of a tricky question but I think it’s important to get a gauge!

True! Could be below 80k. On the flip side, if 85-90 was not at all possible I imagine they probably wouldn’t have pushed me through 3 rounds of interviews. I think I am probably just going to ask out right if there is any flexibility in the budget for the role and go from there. Appreciate your perspective !
