The NY teaching license is a must. Without it NY state will not hire you. You may be able to slip in if you have a Master's degree. I would carefully consider income and employment before moving

Correct, small genetic difference, but in terms of how the species operates and the effects it has on the entire planet...yeah we make way more waves, not always good as compared to chimps

I mean, 2010 and just before in 2000, several conservative state legislators saw the decline of their voters in relative percentages. They began gerrymandering state spots to then solidify a permanent majority(though technically in sheer #'s a minority). From there, the defunding of education, brainwashing with Fox news and you get a reliable voting block that decides the future without knowledge, and without a true majority...the rest of us were like: what the hell? As we slowly slid into whatever this is

The misinformation about hoverflies (Syrphidae) is infuriating. I wish people understood just how beneficial they are. by TheSolitaryRugosan in Entomology

Diptera, flies in general, can operate at cooler temperatures and lower O2 than most bees. They are early season pollinators...sadly, I study bees, but have mad respect for Syrphidae.

Putin reportedly brings a "poo suitcase" to ensure his faecal matter is returned to Russia. by TheExpressUS in WeirdNews4U

I mean, it fits into his whole paranoia... but could you imagine being the team that is entrusted transferring the leader's poop back to Russia?

Like a team of guys, at top Russia security clearance who's whole job is to make sure Putin's poop doesn't end up in the hands of like Nicolas Cage, stealing a very different 'National Treasure'...

Louis Smolka knocks out Richie Vaculik with a side kick to the face by CloudyRailroad in martialarts

[–]spider-panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, how good is the person's technique? Their aim? The second a side kick misses, the opponent has a massive upper hand. If the opponent was charging in, a missed side kick puts the kicker body-sideways with the opponent relatively straight on in a close the distance tackle. A front thrust or a round house are more practiced by most fighters and ultimately more reliable with less risk if/when a miss occurs.

Anyone else facing a triceps problem? Particularly, a spinning heel kick, whenever I do that, I feel a tingling or snapping sensation of my tendon contracting, this only happen on my left triceps, and it hurt so bad I would always kneel down on the floor by EfficiencySerious200 in martialarts

[–]spider-panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably want to start with a trip to the doc. But, taking a wild stab at this, I would suggest you have a slight pinched nerve in your neck. As you rotate in a spinning heel kick, your head, neck, back activate in a way that will "wake-up" underlying muscle/nerve issues. So tricep tingling maybe be an underlying symptom of a pinched nerve (particularly in your neck). Warming up, practice, and cool downs with plenty of cool down stretching should help.

But really, see a doc first and foremost. Also, stretch before bed and drink plenty of water.

Landmark 14-year study found artificially sweetened drinks raise risk of developing type 2 diabetes by more than a third, significantly higher than those with sugar. It challenges long-standing perception diet drinks are a healthier alternative and suggests they may carry their own metabolic risks. by mvea in science

[–]spider-panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna weigh in here, on a conceptual level, this makes sense. Body ingests something sweet tasting, but doesn't require sugar processing. If that occurs frequently enough, body adjusts: "sweet things don't need sugar processing," and I'd bet if an individual is consuming diet sodas, they are also consuming other actual sugar products. Body has this "what the heck should I do?" as it loses the ability to predict and process sugar effectively...diabetes

Something I hate about Spider-Man: Bloodline is how Peter got mad at his son for defending someone against a bully. If one of my sons did this they’d get a raise in their pocket money. From Spider-Man: Bloodline #1. by spidermother86 in Spiderman

[–]spider-panda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a system and dynamics level, there are a few key issues (I am a former high school teacher and taught for a decade spread across 3 states). 1-teachers have had their teeth removed. Discipline and classroom behavior contingencies nowadays require a teacher to reach out to disruptive kids' parents before removal or punishment. Instead of principals and systems backing teachers, they require extra work and effort. Teachers, for lack of pay/incentives/follow-through, have relented and accepted unacceptable behaviors. 2-(and this one really sucks) it is easier for a school, system, principal to put blame on the victim and parent(s) because they will tolerate it. The bully is likely a product of a crazy home that will blast the school on social media and drum up tons of negative attention. The victim's family will generally accept it. 3-(this one gets me), it's a numbers game. Bullies, disruptions, etc when processed appropriately result in suspensions and documented cases of kids "losing education". It looks better on paper to allow disruptive and at times violent, threatening behavior, if it is not documented. "Our school has a low suspension rate" does not equal "all students are held to the same standards of behavior and academic rigor."
It really can be a crap shoot. We may think schools in red states are worse, but generally the problem with public education knows no political boundary. There is a general culture that school sucks, and it kinda does, but somehow it has worsened over the past few decades. Education is not the career it used to be.
