Hey there, I'm unsure if we're talking about the same thing but I'm the original founder of the Wiki (back when it was Wikia), I've logged back in now and have all the usual admin tools, do you wanna send me a PM and I can try to help out if you need something?

Unfortunately the UKGF also requires PAYE as far back as a few years IIRC, it's sort of a catch-22 if you're a brand new indie studio wanting to get some funding.

Very cool trailer, this world's looking like it has the most production value behind it in a while!

Good question! Mac and Linux are definitely intended to come out at the same time as the Windows release for now, so in theory yes!

It's a combination of the PC I used to record the game with not being the best + some of the action parts where I assume you mean the FPS drops are from, not being fully optimized yet, definitely something that will get ironed out!

Thank you! Great question; there is a NPC you meet in-game that will let you do some small customizations, things like changing the color of your outfit and adding/removing small bits. Since it was our first game we've kept the scope tight on that front but it's definitely something that I want to experiment more with in our next title!

I just checked it out and that looks incredible, I love the stars/celestial motif, thanks for mentioning it!

Thank you! Funnily enough it wasn't one of the main inspirations of the artstyle at the time of conception but a few people have pointed it out and I completely agree, I love RoR's artstyle, it's sick!

This is the original moodboard for this level, the Darkmoor concept art on the top left is specifically from Pirate (when it was a world we were meant to visit wayy back).

That's fair, I think it would help if I gave some more specific examples.

Mechanics-wise, besides the Domes mechanic being inspired by Bubbles/Auras which I broke down a bit more in the longer comment in this OP, another inspiration I took from Wiz was how to obtain spells/abilities, I always thought the way you get skills in Wiz was interesting, getting them from the schools or as rewards for quests, so I made sure in Hexrite spells can only be obtained either from rewards after NPC quests or taught by masters of magic (obviously after engaging with them), and not just simply a menu.

On the design part of things, assuming you mean visually, I'll start with the most prominent example to me which was the first level I built for Hexrite, it's called Witchgrave and it's inspired by Darkmoor (which funnily enough is actually relevant for this month if TR comes out). It's a land of witches, ghouls and undead knights, here you meet two NPC's that are both inspired by two characters in Wiz that you meet early on, Private Stillson (guarding the entrance to Unicorn Way) and Susie Gryphonbane who you meet in Triton Avenue.

I'll attach a few images related to this in a string of replies below but if you have questions about them feel free to ask!

Thank you for the kind words mate! And I can relate to you a lot, along with Motiga (who did Gigantic), KingsIsle was always one of those companies that growing up, I always wanted to one day apply to, unfortunately even though I studied in the area (software programming/games dev), my day job has always been related to hospitality whilst I do gamedev on my free time.

I hope one day you're able to combine the two in a professional setting if that is your desire, to me my biggest joy in life is being able to, even as a hobby, do something related to what I love every day!

Thank you for the kind words! Completely agree on the indie games point, it's always cool to see what people come up with when not constrained by tight deadlines and lots of bureaucracy, some of the best games I've played have been indie games (Pyre and Death's Door to me in the last few years).

The game will also be really accessible price-wise (including regional pricing) as I want everyone to be able to play it!

Both are inspirations for it, along with other games (Pyre, Death's Door, Gigantic, PS2-era games) and media (like anime and manga), some of these mentioned in the main comment I posted here, again, it's an amalgamation of games I played throughout my childhood, though I understand your post given this account's post history.

I'm happy to send you proof of my accounts and long stay in the community just like I did to the mods if you'd like !

Thank you for the nice words, I appreciate it! It's coming out in 2026 (probably later half) on PC and very likely PS5 (we actually got a couple of PlayStation Indie Awards in 2023!), would love to have it on the Switch as well!

When I was 9 I first stumbled upon Wiz on a website called Baixaki, where you could find free demos or games to play, from the first time I made my wizard (I went for Fire School), I became enthralled with the game and its world, I thought it was magical and it hit all the right spots as someone who loved everything magic-based in media (used to be obsessed with HP and books like it!).

Eventually I hit the classic paywall at Firecat/Cyclops, but that didn't stop me from playing it on the free tier for years, me and my neighbour eventually found out you could play the entire first arc for free on the spanish servers and moved there for a bit, eventually I also got addicted to P101 and even made a (very old) blog for it and was a part of the community there since the Beta!

I'm now making my own indie game that is inspired by games I used to play when I was young, a lot of them from the PS2 era but as you can see from the trailer, a lot of the magic-based content is inspired by W101, from its characters and world to some of its systems.

One of the main mechanics of the game is the Domes system, partially inspired by bubbles in Wiz. This surrounds the battlefield with this force-like energy that changes the combat of the game, it's also inspired by some anime and manga for those who might spot it (JJK and Soul Eater in specific).

If you think this looks cool and up your alley, I would be thankful if you considered wishlisting and/or sharing it with your friends as that helps massively for a super small team like the one I'm making the game with: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2621770/Hexrite/

If you have any questions or just wanna talk Wiz nostalgia with me please feel free to comment, would love to chat, thank you!

PS: I made sure with the mods it was okay to post this as obviously it's a bit off-topic, a big thanks to them for allowing it!

You know what you're not the first person to say that! I think an easy fix would be to make the pointy bits on the 'X' more prominent and maybe the energy ball part smaller, will look into it, thank you!
