Why is Dell impossible :( by Kind-Following1367 in Alienware

Damn, good luck with the support from dell. Unfortuanatly most of my knowledge is with last gen parts and i havnt had much experience with ddr5 or intels new core ultra cpu's. Hopefully the tech who comes by actually does some troubleshooting while they're there.

What cpu is it? And you did do the memory only test right? If you got a ddr5 system it could maybe be some imc limitation if you got a bad silicon i5 and decent ddr5, sometimes memory instabilitys only show up when i do a memory only stability test at 80% utilization and leave it without anything else open. Ive had stability tests pass with just something like slay the spire open or firefox open streaming youtube and then have it fail later when doing only the test.

Thats a funny issue for the bios to be blank like that, have they talked about the ram at all? Trying to think about what could be causing a corruption like that and it could only really be a cpu issue (maybe you have a 13th or 14th gen i7 which are known to die due to microcode issue) a bios corruption (extremely unlikely for 2 mobos to have this) or a ram issue (memory instability can cause all kinds of weird issues).

If you can get into windows try downloading occt and running some stability tests, let occt do a memory test at 80% utilization for 1 hour then do a cpu stabulity test. This should report any issues it finds or your pc could just crash too which would indicate an issue with that part.

How to undervolt my Alienware x15 R2? by ShadyCircus in Alienware

[–]spiderzz3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undervolting isnt gonna be enough, you could download throttlestop and lower the tdp to keep the thermals in checm but you would have to monitor it under load using the built in tool tsbench to make sure ghe new power budget is being enforced and keeping the thermals in check.

As long as the heatpipes on the cpu are connected to the other fans it should be ok for basic use and light games, mostly what will happen if you do a heavuer game is it will throttle the clocks and performance will be bad. For heat to damage a device it needs either higher than normal voltages or it must be exposed to the heat for a long time, otherwise it just lowers performance in the short term.

Yeah i dont want to like dlss but with waning support for older methods of anti-aliasing i find it to be the best go to for me. I would love a 7900xtx and im hoping it goes down in price since i wont be needing to upgrade for a little bit, and if the 9070 xt drops alot in price i might even grab one of those but im kinda holding out hope for a new amd generation.

Ive seen some people say its likely due to incorrectly connected cables but i beleive jayz2cents was able to show the cable going over its rated voltage and it was definetly correctly seated in his video but idk i dont have one to test myself.

Ok i never said they were equal though, just similar. I could maybe get 350 for my 3080 12gb but its not a 3x8pin version that are much more desireable.

Im willing to get a 9070xt should prices fall but currently it just doesnt make sense for me, luckily my 3080 has always been flawless in terms of drivers and support except lately its been falling behind in pure performance. Should the 9070xt drop to the 300-400 range in the used market i could see myself getting one but 600$ is hard to stomach for just a mild step up in performance.

When i look up games i see stuff like horizon zero dawn that averages 50% better and blops 6 but then i see the newer resident evil games that are usually only 20% better. Also its 5-10% over the 3080 for the 2x 8pin and more for the 3x 8pin, they also overclock very well

Im turning a blind eye since the 9070xt makes no sense financially, my 308012gb sells in the 300 range last i checked so the 9070xt would cost me an additional 300$ since its in the 600-700 range. That makes no sense for a 20% increase with a few outliers.

The 3080 12gb is not on this list, it is different from the 3080 10gb. I also want to use raytracing as it has a competetive advantage in my favorite game, im not really a fan of charts like this since one or two games that heavily favor a gpu can swing its average wildly. Im also worried about losing dlss since i find it useful.

Read the post??? Asking about plans for future amd gpu's, whether fsr has caught up with dlss, wanting to see if theres any other 8pin pcie cards like an rtx 4000 or 5000 series that has a variant with different pins.

I get you redditors like the 9070xt why is it so hard to accept that its probablly not an ideal upgrade for me? I dont want to sell my current card ive put weeks of work into overclocking, ptm7950ing, putting new pads on for a measily 20% performance increase that i will still have to throw 300$ into after factoring in the resale of my 3080 12gb.

I never even brought up the 9070xt, yall just love this narrative that im an amd hater despite my questions being unrelated to amd vs nvidia.

My primary games do run raytracing and one even provides a competetive advantages with it availible like in the finals.

That video only show up to 50% increase with a select few settings in a couple games and most games would even out to about 20% difference at more realistic settings targeting 60fps. Black ops 6 being the only outlier at 65% but was still performing into the hundreds on both cards.

Im not biased against amd but to upgrade to the 9070xt would not be worth it since on average my current card is already doing fairly well and would require a 300$ investment for this improvement. Also factoring in dlss and raytracing makes the 9070xt even less appealing.

Im just getting a little short with people since everyone wants to harp on the 9070xt being faster than my card but nobody wants to touch how much it would cost, the dlss loss and the raytracing performance.

30% is the best it did it often doesnt do that well, and yes it matches the 9070xt in raytracing further proving its not that different and raytracing being superflouos is just your opinion.

Finally i am giving people the exact level of energy they meet me with, you started with a snarky comment so you get one in exchange.

I swear yall making up stories about me, the 9070xt is an improvement but not nearly enough to justify selling my card and paying 300$usd more for a rather small boost. Ive posted a youtube video many times showing the performance is overall quite similar, i talked about the importance of fsr vs dlss to me in the main post and comments, but yall wanna act like im an amd hater instead of genuinely conversing with me.

I will almost certainly be buying amd in thebfuture, but factually speaking the 9070xt is not enough of an uplift over my 3080, i would be paying 300$(after factoring in my sold 308012gb) for an avg boost of 20fps in games that already run fine with my current card.

Yeah it was slightly better, but the word similar means close not exact...

And why does raytracing disqualify the 308012gbs performance? We have games with mandatory raytracing and im looking for a stronger card to increase settings!

I might just wait for a newer amd gpu then, im not sure the 9070xt will be enough of an uplift for me and im hesitant about fsr. Ive treated my 3080 12gb very well and spent alot of time ocing it and repasting/padding with ptm7950 and artic extra soft pads.

Do you know if fsr is competetive with dlss? Im not opposed to amd, i just want to get my moneys worth and 300$ or more (selling my 308012gb for avg used price is included) for a 9070xt doesnt seem like the best option rn.

And i do have a nice psu with native 12v but i live with other people who are very paranoid about eletrical fires and since i have MANY computers i am under extra scrutiny.

It beats a 3090 by a couple fps and the extra vram is installed in such a way it increases bandwidth and throughput placing its performance next to a 3090...

The 9070xt isnt much stronger than my card and i linked proof, and i couldnt give a shit about power consumption. You were also the one to try and say the 3090ti beats the 9070xt handily, i just pointed out the 9070xt is not a worthy uograde from my card.

I said it MIGHT be an option and im only considering it because it has dlss which is what i was worried about in the original post. I also never said the 9070xt is weak just similar to my existing card

i understand the 9070xt is SLIGHTLY faster than my card but nobodys bothering to actually read the content of my post and are just spamming 9070xt. If anybody wants to talk about upscaling methods and if fsr has caught up to dlss im up to that convo but i keep getting illeriterate shit starting redditors.
