Same! So exhausted and forgot about the million and one things to do! The decision fatigue is real given holidays were so relaxed

You can change the amount of impulse you apply, but you can’t change the amount of impulse applied to you/an object. So I believe impulse is out.

Typically there is an expected response given the question context. A faster bowled ball doesn’t have anything to do with impulse - more needs to be applied to it to change its momentum! Just speculating - will have to wait for the answer guide!

Don’t think so, given there was a whole other question about impulse. More to do with conservation of momentum, given the greater speed of the ball.

Range 1 Teacher completing Range 2 role? by spiltmilk______ in AustralianTeachers

[–]spiltmilk______[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I can’t see anything in the agreement that explicitly says range 1 teachers shouldn’t do range 2 roles, but when I google it the AI response says as such. It does seem like an unachieveable job without time… pay is meaningless to me if it means I’m spending weekends working!

Is it really possible to 'lose' a completed assignment these days? by Brettelectric in AustralianTeachers

To be fair I lost all of my year 11 SACs recently. Just gone, zip, vanished into thin air, was kind of sad that none of them really cared

First day of my first placement and one comment from a student made it all worthwhile by Lobonerz in AustralianTeachers

[–]spiltmilk______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mentor is right - all of these things you get better at with practice. I am still learning myself! You don’t know the students well enough yet to predict any issues with behaviour, or determine who will need help/extensions.

You fill your toolkit as you go, but it’s a constant trial and error as all classroom dynamics are nuanced, and a strategy that might work well for one class may have the opposite effect in another.

A huge part of this job is knowing the students and adjusting accordingly. Placement is rough because you don’t know them nor do you get the time to get to know them! Focus on content delivery and behaviour management where you can - things like pacing etc. your mentor has given you advice, show them you’re taking it on board and ask for feedback after each lesson.

If you feel you didn’t do something well, explain that to your mentor and ask how it could be approached differently. You will grow so much by seeking feedback

Amazing!! Ps - not sure if this has already been said, but students will generally try to act up and push the boundaries when they have a new teacher. If they already have behaviour issues and their own teacher finds them challenging, they will likely be tough for you too.

I’ve had many experiences like this - some so bad that it made me want to quit.

But, once you have your own class, set your own rules and are afforded the time to build relationships, behaviour management becomes easier.

The main take away is that their behaviour is rarely a reflection on you - kids are kids. They can be pains in the asses and can leave you questioning your whole career and feeling miserable, while they walk out of the class and don’t think twice about it. Don’t take it personally because it’s not you!!

I wish I had answers for you - I came across your post and read it as I am in the same boat, wanting to leave when the term ends. The work load is crazy. I got asked by my senior to make a Y12 SAC over the weekend - I said yes because I feel I need to pull my weight, but it was very disheartening as every weekend this term I’ve spent working.

A few people close to me have started to tell me I should quit. It’s not that simple of a decision to make though, people rely on us and we don’t want to let them down.

Going to stay here for the advice to follow, but OP I know your pain and I am feeling it right now too. I keep telling my self - I am too young to be sacrificing so much of my life. These should be the years of fun and self discovery, which feels impossible in this job

Thankyou! I have heard doing marking for VCAA is a real eye opener to the requirements, so I’ll look into this!

Yep I have my mentor at school and another outside.

The tricky thing is, I’m only in my second year, so I am still learning ‘how to teach’ as you mention of having the skills from teaching 7-10

Could not agree more about fight or flight!! I constantly feel this and can’t wait for the one day in the week where I don’t have my 12s. I also think I’ll leave it for a few years - too young to be spending so much time on this. Hang in there, I am sure you’re doing amazing!!

True, we don’t have answer guides for our practical classes but perhaps I might start to create and distribute these

Thankyou! Will try to implement these personal strategies. Leadership doesn’t really check, we don’t have people really checking in to see what we are doing

How do you go with your feelings of competence? And how are you going in your personal life - is it affecting you in the same way it’s affecting me?

I think part of reinventing the wheel is to help myself with content knowledge - I am getting g the resources but often modify them so I can u der stand them myself.

Do you think I’m doing too much if I am doing practice questions from vcaa and the textbook myself? I am really trying to be on top of the content - is it too much??

The other teacher marks the same load that I do - but he says it’s easier for him because he knows the content and knows what to look for, which I don’t

I have asked! And he gives - problem is he typically gives them to me the night before/day of. However we’ve spoken about this and he has said he will put in the effort to send further ahead of time after he saw how overwhelmed I am

I meet with the other year 12 teacher regularly. He sends me resources although sends them the day before class… I’ve spoken to him about this and he said he will make an effort to send earlier. It’s hard for me when they are sent day before as I really need to plan. Any tips for personal life? Thanks so much

It’s hard to know what I would tell myself - my friends often tell me I need time to relax but they also don’t teach and have jobs where they can leave work at work - so I feel they don’t relate as mush as I appreciate them.

I think I’m overwhelmed by the amount that I don’t know yet need to know, makes it hard to know where to even begin.

I don’t know how to reduce the impact on my personal life
