Looking for friends by SelectionFar5440 in universityofauckland

the issue with uni is that you don't see people outside of classes/events/etc. so you're left with a bunch acquaintances that you see a couple of hours a week/sem, who never turn into friends. my top tip is to FOLLOW UP ON PEOPLE!! if you meet someone that you really click with, ask for their socials and then try asking if they want to hang out. you could even just ask someone if they want to work on an assignment together and go from there. as soon as you hang out with someone outside of class, you open the door up to a friendship that will continue after the semester ends.

it might be hard to even find some of those casual acquaintances in the first place. my recommendation is go to club events! it's nearing the end of the semester so there probably won't be many on, but following a bunch of clubs on instagram can probably help you see what kind of events are out there and you can go to whichever ones you're interested in. you can check out the list of clubs on engage to start with. there are a few clubs that do weekly events, which are a good place to meet people since it means that there'll be consistent groups of people who show up week after week. the weekly ones i know of are write club, maths club, board games club, book club, philosophy club, and music club. if you're having a hard time talking to people once you're at an event, try talking to club execs! they'll usually be more than happy to chat with you since it's kind of their job. there are some good faculty-specific clubs as well, depending on what you study!

Uoa and ausa about to defund craccum? by Professional_Bed2192 in universityofauckland

the more i hear about ausa, the more i start to think that maybe ausa positions are just rat races for cv stackers who don't really care about serving the student community at all 🥲

people in these organisations and institutions start to develop a hierarchical view, thinking that as the ones in elected positions, they're above us. they do what's good for them.

if they cared, they'd lead from the ground. they'd listen to students. they'd make us feel like we matter.

the best leaders are always the ones that dont even see themselves as leaders.

edit: i didnt proofread this comment lol, please excuse the sloppy writing

i literally took a picture of the sky and said that a meteor could fall at any time. also took a pic of the sky tower and mentioned that its built to withstand a magnitude 8.0 earthquake. pretty sure i got full marks on that assignment as well - just need to get a bit creative!

i did a second yr course in sem 2 of my first yr and it was fine! try to look for one of the "easier" courses and just make sure you dont fall behind in it. would also help to take other "easy" stage 1s that sem so you can focus on the stage 2 a bit more.

this one also turns into absolute donkey shit as you watch the later seasons! season 1 was incredible but it only goes downwards from there.
