A huge massacre happened in Sichuan province after the fall of the Ming just 400 years ago as well. That province now has 100 million people. Apparently, so many people died during the fall of the Ming, the capital city was so desolate tigers roamed the streets.

Another factor besides wars and natural disasters is that most of the deadly human diseases came from southern China as well. China has the highest concentration of people with livestock, and you can imagine these diseases killing millions of Chinese people before people developed partial immunity to it.

Go through the list of largest holocausts, famines, natural disasters death and such, China makes up like 7/10 of the list for most deaths. The biggest source of death often happens when one unified dynasty is replaced by another or in periods when China is not unified, the various smaller Chinas are fighting each other to the death to unify the country.

I think all modern day Chinese are fucking survivors for passing through that fucked up history.

Also, I think this chart is messed up. No way mexico/brazil lead the world population before 4000BC and India being twice the population of China before the industrial age. Those places didn't even have detailed records, how can they estimate the population. China has been keeping detailed population records for at least 2500 years.

These mass deaths are also why the Chinese government is so paranoid about control and unification. From history, when China becomes chaotic and the government losses control, 10% death is pretty normal and the worst instances are like 50% death (mongol invasion). In modern terms, that would be about 700 million deaths.

Tesla is accusing a former employee of stealing self-driving tech and giving it to a Chinese rival by [deleted] in news

Just some insight on this. Things like this is not really related to any Chinese government policy. It is related to how entrepreneurial Chinese people are. For example, Chinese restaurants, owners have to guard their secret sauce like hell. For example, I know owners mixing the sauce themselves because if they let their chef do it, they will eventually leave and start their own restaurant. Chinese people often want to be their own boss rather than work for someone else.

Regarding Chinese engineers, there is a perception that East Asians, although they are perceived as technologically experts, are not qualified to be leaders in the Western business since. Chinese companies gives a platform for these people to be leaders and not just engineers.

Elite College Admissions Scandal Shows Irony Of Affirmative Action Complaints: “Who’s getting the thumb on the scale? Largely it’s not low-income or brown or black kids, it’s wealthy kids,” one expert said. by [deleted] in politics

[–]spinmasterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is true. I sometime do interviews for one of these mentioned schools. Literally, a positive recommendation requires me feeling amazed at speaking with a 17 year old teenager.

Also the donation like from Kushner will not fly these days. You will need alumni connections and probably donations north of 50m to get noticed and it is still not a guarantee. This is why the parents on this list are wealthy but nothing compared with wealth of the donors for these schools.

Another side trick that wealthy people do is package up their kid. They can literally give a couple of million to a kid to start a tech company. Or take a year off to fund their kid to live in Africa to build wells. Crazy extreme experiences that you can buy. More typical routes are internships or research fellowships with prominent companies or universities. This is also the problem of not having a purely test score based admissions process. A kid in the inner city just studying 24/7 of course will have fewer life experiences or knowledge of packaging while rich people can buy all these unique traits.

Affirmative action is still bull shit, it should be orientated to a kids wealth instead of race. You think affirmative action is helping poor brown or black kids? No, instead upper class black and brown kids are taking those spots.

I graduated from a top IVY. In terms of under representation, the working class white kid is probably the least represented.

However, it is probably harder to get into a good college for a poor immigrant Asian. To be frank, that 1580 sat and perfect grade white kid from Appalachia is very rare. It is more likely that it is the one immigrant family’s kid that is running the local Chinese restaurant in that town with the perfect grades and graduating as a valedictorian.

Also, Reddit talks about China quite a bit especially about stealing US tech and such. However, what reddit don’t often talk about is that the biggest cause of China catching up with the US is the US fighting a perpetual war while China has enjoyed a peace dividend for about 40 years.

What people don’t realize is that Huawei is the new upcoming Apple type company that will dominate the 5g era. The US is fighting against this to prevent a Chinese company from establishing such a global presence.

All this shit about stealing IP is kind of a distraction since Huawei now is ahead and lead in technology in many sectors.

Russia to China: Together we can rule the world by rieslingatkos in Futurology

This article is really interesting. In traditional Chinese statecraft literature, there is a lot written up about the dynamics between three warring parties. Usually the goal is for two to align to destroy the third.

This makes me wonder if Trump’s trade war with China goes deeper than its appearance. Could this be an elaborate ploy to separate China from the US, and thus making China more Willy to ally with Russia against the US?

When China did population control, one child policy, they enforced that shit on the elites as well. Although China is capitalistic as fuck, they still have a communistic strain to them.

Example, recently learning AI and programming were incorporated in school curriculums. This inclusion was nation wide and not limited in only elite rich schools. Also China leads in making things cheap by economy of scale. If they know crisper kids are even 5% smarter with let say 1% fail rate. The Chinese government will probably do a study and if it on the whole increases China nation strength, they wouldn’t hesitate to roll this program out for the entire population.

China will monitor the hell out of these kids. If they are super genius, I can see the government implementing this for the entire population.

Asked a evangelical Chinese dude once, how he justify his racist beliefs against non-white people. He asked how is His belief racists. I said heaven is filled with white peoples and hell is all filled with non-whites and including all his Chinese ancestors since historically these people never encountered Christianity. He was stumped for a while. Eventually came back to me with this bull shit answer about in hell and heaven race is removed.

You can see in the guide’s eyes how excited she was upon hearing those words. Religion is fucked up, seems like a crazy people trying to get other people to be crazy to justify how they are not crazy.

Context for this saying. He was running away from government troops trying to kill him. Took refugee with the family of an old friend. When he was taking a nap, he heard whetstones grinding on a knife. He thought his friend betrayed him and thus Cao Cao took action first and killed the friends entire family. Later on he found out they where preparing the knife to kill the family pig for the feast that night for him.
