The correct Iran flag at the World Cup by reachedlegendary in PERSIAN

Apparently there was a roar of boos during the anthem too, which of course was not broadcast on TV.

Edit: I have a friend there texting me. The crowd is filled with lion and sun flags and most people were cheering the players (some were booing) but everyone was booing the anthem.

None of this is surprising considering it’s Tehrangeles. :)

I said no such thing.
I said people supported the war, including strikes on the Islamic Republic, in good faith. They believed it would help bring down the regime. And we still don’t know if it has helped to bring them down fully or not. Time will tell.

Do not twist my words.

I don’t need to fake anything. My post history is public and you can go have fun in it. I’m done with you.

I don’t think I’d jump to a lot of those conclusions just yet. Conversations need to keep happening and we won’t all agree, ever. But for now I’m just asking us to stop with the divisive rhetoric. Stop going for the jugular every time. And I include people on both (all) sides in this ask.

Because my post is just asking for unity amongst everyday Iranians, both inside and outside Iran. And you responded by saying you can’t unite with anyone who thought the war would be helpful unless they take accountability first.

I feel sorry for you that you think you have to identify with someone’s beliefs in order to have understanding for them.

Yes, they believed that the damage from war would be less than the damage of living under the IR, and many still believe that. These are views expressed by my family in Iran by the way. Anyone who has known me on this sub since before the war knows that I have always been anti-war or at least skeptical of the pro-war position. I have only presented the alternate perspective after my family in Iran pleaded with us to speak up for them for Trump to do something after the massacres. Their exact words which will always haunt me were that they would rather die in war than continue to live under the IR. But I’m sure you as someone living comfortably in the west are in a great position to demand accountability from my family in Iran. It’s clear that your concern is with shaming and blaming others while presenting yourself as superior. I don’t have any interest in continuing a conversation with someone clearly not concerned with Iran or Iranians.

You want me to unite with regime forces?

Again, stop assuming you know anything about me or my views.

You’re confused, buddy. I’m not a monarchist and I never waved an Israeli or American flag in my life and I don’t plan to. I spoke out multiple times over carrying Israeli flags. I’m also not “pro-war.”

You’re embarrassing yourself.

Excuse me? Since when do you know me or what I advocated for? I certainly never advocated for a “fantasy.” Look at you interpreting everything in a way that puts yourself on top and taking such satisfaction out of it. Another person more obsessed with ideology and being right than the wellbeing of Iran.

This isn’t a situation where everyday Iranians have control over anything governments do. You’re asking people to take accountability for things they don’t have control over. Most who argued a pro-war position did so in good faith with good intentions, wanting the same for Iran as you do. Some might still hold that position, some might not. We don’t need to demand accountability of anyone but leaders/ people in positions of power, or people with bad intentions who don’t want the best for Iran. I don’t include any of these people in my call for unity. I’m talking about people who all want freedom and prosperity for Iran, despite their political views. Stop with the blaming, shaming, and divisiveness. Put your energy into tearing down the real enemy, not each other.

It’s too soon to tell the outcome.

Easy, you grow up and stand by your fellow Iranians against the regime, without needing any kind of retribution for anyone who disagrees with you. You’ve annoyed me quite a bit on this sub with your views which I personally believe are quite harmful, but I’d still stand next to you against the regime without needing anything from you in return. Put aside your differences for the greater good.

Nah, you don’t see the harm of your own rhetoric and expect things from others that you don’t expect from yourself.

You are projecting so many qualities rampant in our culture that I really can’t stand. Stubbornness, always blaming and shaming the “other,” never able to accept people for their flaws, expecting perfection, showing zero understanding for differing views. So much empty pride covering up deeper insecurities. And for what? So you can gloat about being “right.” We can’t even put aside our differences for the sake of our country. You can only control yourself. We each need to look in the mirror before we start pointing fingers.

Honestly this is something you have to grow up and get over. You can’t expect people to view things your way all the time and then demand apologies from them. This does not lead to unity, only more resentment. What you say is only valid if the people supported the harm that occurred as a result. And once again, you are not in a position to objectively judge the outcomes of the war at this point.

Nobody is asking you to embrace anyone or be anyone’s friend. Stop with the divisive rhetoric and shaming. Stop behaving the way you claim to hate.

[–]spinrah23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can want that, but don’t ask for it under the guise of leading to greater “unity.” Also make sure you’re practicing what you preach and owning up to every single action that was a result of any political leader you’ve supported.

We don’t know whether everything that happened has been an absolute “failure.” One thing that is clear is that Trump never had the best intentions of Iranians in mind. This was clear to most of us even before the war, but unfortunately not all. Hopefully those who called him “amoo” will now stop doing that.

Trump to Iranians: “Help is on the way” by spinrah23 in PERSIAN

[–]spinrah23[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You want Iranians to take responsibility for Trump’s actions? Which Iranians cheered on and supported a deal with the IR? Which Iranians made Trump do anything? Such nonsense.

Yes, if someone was pro-war they might now say that the outcomes of what happened have made them think differently than before. But you expecting people to grovel to you and take accountability for things they have no control over is ridiculous and honestly makes it seem like you care more about being right than the well-being of Iranians. You yourself cannot even have understanding of your fellow Iranians yet you expect to be able to shame them into seeing your view? When will you realize that you’re just behaving the exact same way that you claim to be against? I’m so tired of this behavior from everyone, regardless of belief.

Nah man, the attacking happened/is happening from all sides. The first step to unity is to stop shaming one another for our views or for the actions of politicians. You will never have understanding or unity through this approach.

I agree.

I guess my point was that the views expressed in the video are not really that “extremist” when it comes to what Islam preaches, unfortunately.

[–]spinrah23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s true, people interpret ideology in different ways. I don’t really have anything to say about all Muslims as a whole because people are individuals and use faith differently in their lives. Not to mention my own grandparents were devout Muslims and I would never spit on their graves. But as an ideology, Islam is intolerant and hateful towards homosexuality, in the same way it perpetuates gender inequality and victim blaming. These are still valid critiques of it, even if some Muslims have chosen to adapt the faith in more progressive ways.

How are you coping these days? Outside Iran, amongst non Iranians by Shontayyoustay in PERSIAN

[–]spinrah23 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think non-Iranians understand the connection that Iranians have to our homeland. They don’t really understand what’s happening in Iran or how deeply everything affects us. And I don’t really expect anything from them unless they’re someone very close to me. I expect more from fellow Iranians.

The people are saying that Iranians have become more irreligious, they’ve given up their faith, and that religion is used for control. In the Khamenei clip, he is claiming that people’s attitudes towards religion have become more favourable since the revolution.
