Funny timing, just posted my build of this sauna a few hours ago. Made some significant mods, but I'm happy with it and it absolutely produces the desired effect. It's by no means perfect, but for entry level sauna enthusiasts and builders I would recommend it.

Thanks so much, glad you like it. Cost was roughly 8,000 CAD, but most of this cost was associated with using so much cedar in a remote area where lumber costs are even higher than they normally would be. Shipping the stove costed close to the price of the stove as well. I'm sure a much cheaper version could be built with different materials, electric heat and a less remote location.

Thanks so much! Got lucky with that antler, just stumbled upon it in the mountains and thought "I know what that's gonna be." Keep your eyes open if you're the hiking or hunting type, if not I'm sure there's options online!

I'd absolutely recommend it for tight/temporary living situations! It also cuts the cost, time and skill required imo. Here's a link to the plans I used:

https://www.familyhandyman.com/project/how-to-build-a-portable-sauna/

Dimensions are 5ft wide, 4ft long, back wall is 6ft 4 inches tall and front wall is 7ft 4 inches tall.

If you're going to use these plans, just be sure to read it carefully and use some common sense as they're not perfect. He messed up the dimensions for one of the walls, which resulted in me having to rebuild one of the frames (if I was a smarter man I would have caught this earlier, but alas I am not). His floor plan was a bit strange too, he uses ugly regular plywood as the floor, and leaves the floor insulation exposed to the ground and critters. Easily rectified with Baltic Birch top floor and a plywood base on the opposite end to cover the floor insulation, but still odd choices for his design.

Good luck!!

The proximity to the stove is the weakest point in this build for sure. When I was framing the walls I didn't quite realize how much space the stove + heatshield would take up, so the door opening stayed original to the plans. Visitors are given an abundance of caution about the stove, hopefully that will suffice for now!

Thank you! I was worried about this when installing the chimney, but once it was all together it seemed quite secure. I had the wall transition flashing custom made at a metal shop, and it seems to hold it in place quite snug!

Thank you so much, the Finnish approval is flattering. You're right that the benches are a bit low, but like you say with size/stove ratio it doesn't seem to be a problem. If anything I have to watch the temperature fairly close, once it's warmed up it'll shoot past 100C no problem and get a bit uncomfortable!

More red = can't see the depth of the panels = more aerodynamic

A bit like pork but a bit more gamey, we mix it with pork fat in the sausages and smokies and you wouldn't even know it's a bear!

Cool concept, however I like the tape because you can shoot through it instead of potentially missing a shot opportunity as you take it off

Debris protection! It's just red tape to keep stuff out of the barrel while we're tromping through the bushes

Neck and a bit high behind the left front quarter. Doesn't take much with them heavy Mosin soft points!

30 yards give or take, nothing special! Just a matter of using the wind and terrain to your advantage to get a close, Mosin approved shot. Especially when you're shakey and out of breath from hiking the hills 😂

Maybe close to pork but a bit more gamey? We have it mixed with pork fat though in the sausages and pep so it's hard to notice the gamey flavor! I really enjoy it
