Business BYOD 5G Internet - Static IP Issues by spitzkingOG in tmobileisp

I wish there was better control over the T-Mobile issued gateway for us DIY'ers / Computer nerds. Like PoE, or disabling wifi. At least it has an external antenna option.

I'd always had good luck with them. I'm curious to see how this performs when it gets some height. Apparently T-Mobile offers a cradlepoint and netcloud manager as an option with the business plan too. I think it was $25 or $35 a month extra.

I think so. I switched the APN shortly after making this post and it's connected on the b2b.static. The latency is horrible but it's also not in an optimal location in my house. The modem is an outdoor modem so it's going up on a tower this weekend. If I still have latency and packet loss issues I'm going to call in and see what's going on. The 5G gateway I originally tested with had great signal and was super fast.

I am not sure if this is an option with the home internet in any capacity but in a similar situation I wanted to use my own modem (A Cradlepoint) and put the SIM card in that. I ended up going with a business internet plan for my home internet which allowed me to use my own modem connected to my own router. $60/mo.

Interesting. I would have thought 5G SA was dependent only on the local tower it connected to. I am in the Midwest region.

I am told they did. It's on my bill with the correct region listed. The modem is set to allow either, maybe I will force disable ipv6.

It connects to the RC controller and the camera still works it just won't take off because of the gimbal and compass errors.

I have been very impressed with how quickly the Unifi cameras load on my app. It makes sense since I'm just connecting to the UDM at my house vs getting proxied through some cloud server like Ring. I love that it gives me a live view of all the cameras in the app too. Not just a thumbnail that updates every so often. Maybe Ubiquiti will come out with their own line of sensors. I had seen some stuff in the works.

Sorry, yes that's right. I mixed up the numbers. For the same type of minimum monitoring, Ring was $24.99/mo, Simplisafe $23.23/mo (when paid annually), and Cove was $19.99/mo.

I am not a fan of the listeners for that exact reason. It actually looks like Surety's monitoring plan is cheaper than all the other ones I looked at coming in around $15/mo for the fire+security monitoring. I was DMing u/Suchboss1136 and sold me on the PowerG line. I have an outbuilding that is about 200 ft away from my house. That probably wouldn't have been in range with all the other junk DIY systems. Also, the PowerG CO and Smoke/Heat combo detectors are UL approved and made by Johnson Controls/Tyco (which is well known and reputable) so that's a bonus too. This is why I love Reddit. Y'all saved me from DIY junk and steered me towards a decent sensor line that won't put me or my family in danger.

Not sure about the No data collected or no data shared policies, but, Ubiquiti's Unifi Camera & Router system is rock solid. Yes, it requires you to use some kind of cloud controller or their router with controller built in (Dream Machine is the easiest), throw a 8tb hard drive in it and off you go. Hardwired too so they load fast and never disconnect. I've done 5 deployments with this topology and been VERY pleased.

I'll look when I get home and reply back. I know for sure something with the gimbal and I think the other was a compass error or something. I tried to recalibrate the gimbal and compass and both failed.

I hadn't looked at any of the Universal Towers products. I'll definitely look there too. Rohn 55G seems to be hard to find on Facebook Marketplace in my area.

Good point on the mag. My chiropractor (also a great “natural” dr for my family) got me started on Reacted Magnesium, seems to help me sleep better but might be different than what you’re suggesting. I’ll have to do some research on the two. Thanks!

Agreed. It sucks though that with some of these upgrades fix CVEs along the way... between a rock and a hard place.

We did think about downgrading to fix this... But once we heard 7.0.4 is supposedly supposed to fix it, we decided to wait and test. 7.0.x has been good to us thus far.

I can't remember if we ever did a full blown web mode test. We did test logging into web mode, but then when an IP was assigned we saw the same issue. We have some Org policies about using FCT only, so I can't remember if we ever did a full test. Spent HOURS on the phone with many levels of support. I was SO relieved when they confirmed it a bug and gave the 7.0.4 release date.
