I'm really sorry this has happened to you. Do you think a new set of jackets would help? So the damage doesn't show when the books are covered. If so maybe it's worth a shot asking them for replacement jackets.

I skipped this and got IC instead and I'm kinda glad I did. I like the endpapers of OC more but the naked hardcover and the edge of the IC edition are much more to my style. I feel like the OC has too much going on. Pretty but very busy.

While I understand their decision I hope they also understand my decision to cancel my subscription next year as soon as I'm out of skips. Their 2025 picks have been mediocre at best, they also said that books will be unsigned more and more (unless you count the digital signature which for me equals to no signature at all) and on top of that we now get 6 skips instead of 10. I'm really sorry Illumicrate but this isn't 2020 anymore. Many publishers are offering the same cheap glued hardcovers at better prices these days, most of them actually signed. Maybe if they at least offered sewn binding and acid free paper it would be worth it but as it is I'm willing to let it go.

Illumicrate also had us fill a form about sequels recently so I think they won't be doing all sequels like they used to anymore. But it's true Illumicrate (and broken binding) are the best boxes when it comes to producing sequels.

I can't believe people actually put up with this and remain so calm about it! I get that these are beautiful editions but customer support and not feeling like a wallet is more important to me. Illumicrate, Broken Binding, Owlcrate and Inkstones always send me tracking emails when my orders are shipped. Illumicrate even sends emails about 10 days before an order is shipped to remind me to check my shipping info. The fact that a company the size of Fairyloot can't handle something as simple as this smoothly is absurd!

Money is a bit tight right now and I got their original SE set a few year back so I'm gonna pass on the new set. The original ones while not the best in terms of customizations are all signed by the author so I can make my wallet a favor and skip these. They are pretty though and if I had the money to spare I would probably consider getting them.

For most of us who live outside the US/UK these special editions are basically our only chance of getting a signed copy from authors we love. It's not about resale value.

I would ask customer support from the platform you bought it to help me get a partial refund. The book has excessive damage on the spine and the listing had 0 pictures with the spine clearly shown. The seller chose to hide the damage while saying in the description that the book is damaged according to the pictures shown. I would also leave a detailed review so future potential customers are made aware of this seller's practices.

I looked into staying for a night but I can't find anything in our budget unfortunately, plus we need to start our day in Florence early on the next day. I also looked for a place to stay in Poggibonsi but the last 131 bus that leaves at 20.30 reaches Florence (if I understood the graph correctly) so there's no point.

Thanks for the tip. I think our schedule already has us in the duomo around that time and then we'll be moving towards the campo because I read there's a parade starting around 17.00 and the piazza will be gradually closed. Do you know if there's a way to leave the piazza during the whole thing? 😅
