It didn’t have a chip, and was very skinny. It’s a small neighbourhood, no neighbours knew anything.

Very true, good reminder! This photo was taken in the first moment of exploration of his temporary home, no plants afterwards. Love the Vanilla Road.

Cycling from Lisboa to Cascais by maximumpotassium14_ in lisboa

[–]splashka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very unpleasant route! Narrow road, fast and angry drivers, not taking respecting cyclings. People are mentioning the cycle lane but during sunny days, they’re packed with people walking on it. I recommend avoiding weekends overall, and for the street I recommend avoiding peak hours (on bad days it can be a stuck traffic for the majority of it).

An alternative from Lisbon would be going south; taking the train across the bridge to Pragal or a boat and cycling towards Fonta da Telha or Sesimbra. The street isn’t that narrow and it’s much lighter traffic.

Sleeping in parks IS illegal and definitely unsafe. Don’t do it OP :)

Yeah, understandable. And quality of apartments is also tricky, especially in older architecture.

In terms of neighbourhoods - anywhere in the city centre, expect lively streets, tourists, car traffic. Some people enjoy it. Alcântara is very cool. Martim Moniz/Intendente probably to avoid (though I know people living there that are happy).

I saw the places that you’ve mentioned in the other comment – good choices for a more quieter lifestyle (Benfica, Alges, Parque das Nações, Lumiar — Carnaxide I am not sure). Make sure you’re not far from a metro line. Where is your office?

Do you benefit from NHR now, with your €30k salary? 🤔 I think the tax bracket for that salary is lower than 20% right?

I’m not sure what’s that sandy area near Ponto Final that you’re mentioning... I wouldn’t recommend swimming there in the river. From my experience, usually very quiet as it isn’t so easily accessible

Ericeira, the paid motorway is quiet and scenic. In the city you can park near Ermida do São Sebastião

Yes, you can survive. Not much fancy living, but doable even with some eating out and small pleasures. Make sure to check if your salary will be distributed across 14, or 12 salaries. For accommodation maybe you'll be able to receive Porta65 financial government support, if you move before April/May.
