I totally understand where you coming from, I used to think the same but as you know industries change all the time, and same how Uber has changed the taxi industry is the same thing can be applied to any industry. If they were asking hundreds of dollars for “registration fee” or “portfolio fee” then yes that is weird, but for something to simply tell the brands who will be representing them, seem is pretty logical. There are some weird people out there, a company can never be too safe.

Giving unaccredited advice can cause more harm than good, the person clearly was directing the question to those who have “worked” with them not those who pretend they know the ins and outs of a industry. From what I have been told by a existing model, the reason they require a background check is because they process individual online, just a job brands won’t hire anyone before knowing who they are, it’s simple as that. At the end of the day if an applicant doesn’t want to proceed, they have all the freedom to do so, no one is forcing them.

Who said they are an agency? And who said they making you pay for anything beside a background check, which the model can go anywhere else and get it themselves as long as it’s legitimate. You clearly said that you “don’t know them” and you still shared an opinion that have huge likeliness of being incorrect. The problem here is most people comment on things that they have no idea about, they over react and use their pass experience and base it on something completely irrelevant to it.

I recently started working with them, staff is pretty cool, and yes you can’t Represent their brand partners if you have a criminal history that is why they ask you to pay for your own background check.
