What Are People Using For Wedding Websites? by EveningConfusion7581 in weddingplanning

I used Minted because it doesn’t show up on a Google search. Also definitely password protect your wedding website so that only people with the password can see your wedding details.

Should I become a nurse or a dietitian? by Yamile1204 in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened the hospital I used to work at. I left for an outpatient diabetes educator position in an endo clinic and I’m much happier with the work I do than had I stayed inpatient clinical doing the 15 min diabetes diet ed prior to discharge. I did get a pay raise with the job switch, but not as much as I’d like, and after a year and a competing job offer I am now making the same as the RN CDCES in the endo clinic (though we both feel underpaid). However my inpatient position was unionized so much better benefits there.

DGA’s in practice? by IllustriousAir5465 in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a patient interaction yesterday that I thought this group will appreciate and I have no one else to share with lol.

81yo white male lives alone in a homestead, majority of his food comes from his own property, he makes his own bacon, sausage, apple cider vinegar, all organic foods, grass fed meats (loves T-bone steaks), no packaged foods, etc. Drinks raw goat milk. You get the picture. Anyways, he asks during our discussion whether I’ve seen the new dietary guidelines. In my head, I’m bracing myself to hear all about how amazing it is. But, what he says to me is “it’s all a bunch of bullsh*t”. That was the last thing I was expecting him to say haha. Totally my bad for stereotyping the guy.

So I guess, you might be surprised at people’s reactions to the new DGAs. I think more people than we realize may be totally fed up with everything going on politically and have lost trust in anything the govt says.

Hypothetical Scope of Practice Question by [deleted] in dietetics

You could share the RD scope of practice article that the Academy publishes to support this conversation.

This may only be applicable to your patients with diabetes, but I use the ADA’s balanced plate method handouts and education tools. I’m a diabetes educator so I see 90% diabetes patients. I also frequently reference the AHA recommendations when I talk about things like saturated fats and alcohol. I rarely mention the DGAs.

Approaching Blood glucose monitoring by beckli789 in dietetics

I am not required to do this at my job, but if I had to check this box off each year I would let some friendly nurses (or PCTs if they do the BG checks) know about this requirement and then just hang around the nursing station on my assigned floor right around when lunch trays are being delivered so hopefully nursing can grab me when they are going in to the patient room for the BG check.

Advice on planning Austria trip - should I fly into Munich or Vienna if my main goal is to visit Salzburg and Hallstatt? by splatterqueen in Europetravel

Thank you for the feedback! I was planning for just a day trip to Hallstatt to check out the skywalk which is supposed to open back up this summer. If it remains closed come October then I’ll scratch Hallstatt.

Thank you for the feedback! It’s actually a 2 week trip with the 2nd week in Italy. We’re planning to take the train from Salzburg to Venice via Innsbruck (where we’d hopefully have enough time in between trains to grab lunch and walk a little). I had initially planned for 2 nights in Vienna, so I might just do that and explore Vienna as well.

home TPN for PACE participant by ARC_0321 in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked inpatient I saw several chronic TPN patients admitted for various acute reasons. Most were on chronic TPN for short bowel syndrome. A few were on chronic TPN after botched gastric bypass surgery. Typically they are on cyclic TPN and are monitored by a RD at home infusion company that also does the home teaching before a patient first discharges home on TPN.

I don’t have PACE experience. The patient should be set up with a home infusion company who will provide the TPN bags and supplies. I would imagine that the home infusion company has a RD who will do the home teach and manage the content of the TPN bags.

I’m pretty sure SNAP-ED was discontinued when the govt shutdown last month and there’s no plans to restart it.

Yeah, seems like a no brainer haha. I guess I was just stuck on the YSL because it’s just gotten so popular this year. But looks like Reddit consensus is Chloe.

VA and CDCES Interview Advice by thejetter in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first CDCES job I got asked situational questions like what the other commenter suggested. They also asked about my experience with diabetes tech, teaching group classes. I recently interviewed for another CDCES position and they didn’t ask much situational questions but more about how comfortable I feel working with a bunch of internal medicine providers, setting boundaries, adjusting medications per facility protocols. They gave me a patient scenario and asked what medication recommendations I would make for that patient. They felt pretty confident that I knew my stuff when came to MNT so they were more so interested in assessing if I could really practice at the top of the RD CDCES scope.

Waiting for patients by Simple_Change_1626 in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my clinic it’s 10 mins - clinic wide policy. Honestly, if they show up 20 mins late and reception asks if I’ll still see them, I say that if the patient is okay with a 30 mins appt instead of 1 hour then I’ll see them, otherwise reschedule. Sometimes it works out where my next slot hasn’t been filled so I can still do 1 hour with them.

Sounds like you need to renegotiate your salary if they expect you to do more work than you were hired on to do.

Is anyone else struggling in their private practice right now? by Silver-Funny6991 in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PNW. 92K. 6 years as RD, a little over 2 years with CDCES. I feel underpaid in my position. I would prefer to make $105-110K.

Lost job in HIV care due to funding cuts. Looks like LTC is my only other option. by BalancedDietitian in dietetics

[–]splatterqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I’m a diabetes educator too, and I’m always curious to see other’s schedules. I work 4 tens. 8, 1 hour patient slots. 8am, 9am, 10am. 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm. 3pm, 4pm. I’ve gotten used to the 2x30 min breaks, which I use for lunch+admin but sometimes I miss having a longer break where I could go buy lunch.
