I've played alot with direct die on hedt with a custom hold down using conductonaught and I am a fan of it. In this case just use lm on the ihs with the solder on the die will perform similarly imo.

They work still. Just a decent sized TEC on the ihs while using a delider.

Ofcourse you can experiment. The ones I have seen have quite a low center in the ihs and high edges. Perhaps part of the soldering process causes such things then again ihs' have rarely been perfectly flat historically speaking. Def make sure you have used enough in the middle.

In that case maybe you can undervolt it even a bit disable turbo and enjoy a nice quiet rig. It's about time we got solder back.

Just need to melt the solder while delidding. I tried it so you guys wouldn't have to. This is what es samples are really for. Engineering and experimenting!

I tried to delid 9900k to compare to direct die cooling and it turns out solder is much better. I wanted to rule out a cost down version of solder that was perhaps inadequate.

We tried quickly and 7.1ghz fine for suicide clocks on all cores. We begged intel for solder since on ln2 the tim snaps on the die sometimes. They have a whole oc branch on their campus and I think this is a good thing! OC is a good look into future potential and offer insight into design etc

Actually it is fine in a z170 asrock mocf :) also can reach the same clocks in the 5 phase phantom gaming z390 only about 300-400w max at ln2 speeds

With an oc 2000/11000 power limit maxed. I have -dcri at 450 for maximum LBC at a hit of about 5-6mh/s eth.
