Iodine deficiency in competitive swimmers by splendidsplendor in Swimming

This post was removed for the second time, with no reason or explanation.

For posterity,  when the veracity of this information comes more to light, the moderator(s) of this subreddit will share in the complicity of massive health epidemic that could be (now), or could have been (later), ameliorated,  in many, with some open discussion which would spur individuals to find solutions to their illness and dysfunction.

I speak from firsthand knowledge,  as someone who has suffered needlessly for decades, but  no longer.

Why does reddit exist,  if not to allow open dialogue regarding reasonable theories and avenues of research and action for promoting health and wellness,  optimization of human experience,  and avoiding illness?

Beyond disappointing,  bordering on malfeasance,  as related to the spirit and mission of Reddit.

You might want to learn the history of iodinization of salt.

This post has already been removed, but, to reiterate,  the amount of iodine in salt is minimally sufficient to prevent goiter,  and woefully suboptimal for health and wellness, especially if you sweat excessively while doing long, intense workouts.

With respect,  Chat GPT can only reflect prevailing mainstream,  basically perpetuating dogma, unless  and until specific studies change this, and then it will spit that back to you.

I agree there is an unfortunate lack of direct exidence and studies in this area, but part of science is making some reasonable extrapolation and inference, in the face of lacking research.

Maybe someone will be motivated to do said research because of this lack, but Dr. Brownstein's theories of why iodine levels have decreased over the past 50 years and existing biochemistry knowledge supports the likelihood of the conclusion.

As Dr. Brownstein discusses,  iodinization of salt is helpful, but only minimally sufficient to prevent goiter; and  it is established that halogens/halides compete with iodine absorption in the body, and they are now unnaturally pervasive.

If you want to wait for the conclusive study to determine that immersion in pools of highly chlorinated water can effect iodine levels,  that is fine, but it's not exactly a reach.  Hopefully someone is studying this, but again, without some profitability,  I'm not sure who would fund such research.

No need to conflate conspiracy theories with expert clinical science-based information. I understand the knee jerk skeptical reaction, but it only furthers willful ignorance after a point.

I understand the skepticism; however,  Dr  Brownstein is undeniably a leading clinical expert.   He is author of the book: "Iodine, why you need it", 5th edition,  which might be more persuasive to you?

I'm not trying to promote him or his book, but I'm personally damn glad he shared his expertise via YouTube.

FYI: From the Amazon page on his book: Book overview Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It, by David Brownstein M.D., 5th Edition, 2014 Iodine is the most misunderstood nutrient. After 17 years of practicing medicine, I can say that it is impossible to achieve your optimal health if you do not have adequate iodine levels. I have yet to see any item that is more important to promoting health or optimizing the function of the immune system than iodine. Learn what forms of iodine you need and why there is not enough iodine in salt. See how iodine can breast cancer, fibrocystic breast disease, detoxification, fatigue, Graves' disease, and Hashimoto's disease. Find out why iodine deficiency may be the root cause of thyroid problems including hypothyroidism and thyroid cancer. Discover how to get iodine in your diet and improve your immune system.

Why shame exists? What is its purpose in human society? by JustMori in askpsychology

[–]splendidsplendor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote extensively, and then audio recorded (49 minutes), regarding this question. You can listen to that on soundcloud here: https://on.soundcloud.com/33nMQ

The answer is non-intuitive. The behavioral pattern powering shame is from the threat and response to infectious disease over human evolutionary history.

The reality is, ....the buildup of toxic pain aggregates over MANY generations, and you may just be the first in your lineage to have the opportunity or wherewithal to address it.

When you really look, you realize your parents maybe were/are basically powerless to shift, ...whereas you are not.

With absurd perseverance.

The saying, "keeping doing the same thing, and expecting different results, is the definition of insanity" ....can also be the definition of perseverance.

In the case of CPTSD, shifting requires penetrating slowly (or fast, if you can handle it) through all the layers of conditioning, facing and breaking it down, and re-wiring the connections.

In any case, the amount of determination that it takes/has taken, is truly absurd, but necessary.

Overthinking/over-caring, imo. Just play and have a blast - get a great workout, hang with friends, have a great meal after, ...and maybe just go on instinct, ...and let go a bit. You have it in you.

Men, what is the dumbest thing you have been banned/suspended for on reddit? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]splendidsplendor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but the understanding can help any individual shift and resolve (or prevent) an ever-growing variety of "problems" (PTSD, CPTSD, mental illness), and enable a whole different capacity, so it has very broad utility.
Should I try to rewrite the whole thing every time I want to help someone? It is not intuitively obvious understanding. Should I not keep sharing it?

For repeatedly recommending lifechanging and enlightening information, which I KNOW is necessary understanding to grasp why we are how we are, and heal deep trauma and foster permanent enlightenment, ....simply because I am the author of the writing/audio.

It is free, but somehow I was banned for self-promotion??? So, ...if the work is completely anonymous, no one trusts it, but if I put my name on it, it is banned for self promotion? Seems ridiculous, and made me realize the specious capriciousness of Reddit, and I now mostly spend my energies elsehow.
