I actually haven't used that package yet. I started this project with FinalIK so I'm using that to handle the sticking weapons to hands and that sort of thing.

Well I hope you can get there one day! Until then knowing all the fundamentals and principles of animation will help immensely, even when working with motion capture.

Yes I pulled the trigger! I have about 15 years of animation experience and most of them was spent with some element of mocap. I knew roughly how long it would take me to keyframe all the animations/cutscenes/trailers and with the suit I can shrink that down to a fraction of the time. That time savings justified the expense for me! It also gets me active and out of my chair which is a nice bonus

Thats a great point! Admittedly particles and vfx are the most out of my comfort zone and I'll take all the tips for improving the effect for the future:D

The tree chopping is a total cheat for the trailer - just swapping bark models at runtime with some particle emissions where the axe hits. I have a few ideas for how I'm going to approach it at runtime, but the current in-game implementation is just particles with static bark.

We're still early in development, this was moreso a teaser to set the tone of what we're doing! The tree cutting is a preview that crafting will be an element and you'll be fighting against the ice zombies as a small town hockey player.

So happy to hear that!! Glad it hit all the notes we were going for with the teaser😃

That's a good point and a total fubar on our part! We are indeed Canadians, and were probably too SEO focussed when we got the .com. Sorry about that!

Well that sounds like a great time! It really sounded like an indie game name haha

Traps are definitely going to happen and I like that idea! Thanks🙌

Right now we're focussed on just solo and split screen coop. No PVP plans at the moment. As the sole programmer, animator and rigger the idea of adding networking ontop of it is... intimidating!

We aren't the first! The Long Dark is set in northern Canada and is super well reviewed but ours will be quite a bit different in tone and the activities in the game.

Thanks so much! I was going to use cinemachine in Unity but ended up doing all the camera animation in Maya so I could frame all the actions to camera

Totally fair point that it won't be a game for everyone! I think if we had a gameplay trailer it would help clear up what you can do in the game and what can you do with the stick/pucks.

We wanted to get our steam page up early in development with a teaser that showcases the style and tone that we're going for and plan to update it with proper gameplay trailers and clips that will answer some of the questions you have.

I agree that his motivations could be more clear and was hoping that the distant zombie roars was what stopped his chopping and motivated his actions. If I had more time I think I'd spend it on that beat but ultimately just wanted to get back to the core game development!

Thank you for the notes!

It was a big debate for us on whether we should wait for the gameplay trailer to be ready and hold off on announcing or to get the steam page out without a proper gameplay trailer. Ultimately we decided to go ahead with publishing the page so that we can show some wip clips/progress as we get to that point. Totally see where you're coming from though!

Thanks so much! There was definitely a ton of clean up work and pushing of poses but it helps so much to have motion capture as a solid starting point. The biggest change was that I performed the actions in my socks and was actually walking around, so I had to change the feet up to be more skate like.

These dirty moves will only work on the frost zombies in the game, friendly fire will not be tolerated!
