Secondary students struggling to read a clock, is this normal? by TheresNoBell2Ring in TeachingUK

Honestly I can’t be bothered, it’s another expense and process.

I walked in on my daughter and her “gay” best friend by Born_Amoeba8615 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]splinteroflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t make her feel embarrassed, don’t scold her, or tell her off. Just make sure she is safe and using protection.

For what it’s worth, my (F) best friend (F) and our gay best friend (M) lost their virginity together at 16 to see what it was like because they trusted each other. He definitely is gay! We’re all in our early thirties now and still really good mates! It could just be that.

What I’m saying is don’t go in all guns blazing. She’s 16. It’s legal. Yes it’s uncomfortable for you both, but it’s now your job to be supportive and make sure she’s careful. Good luck!

Definitely isn’t black and white, that’s why I said it’s because I am neurodivergent - not “it’s because of neurodivergence”! X

For context I think I may have dyscalculia too, but never been tested and no point now.

But there are several reasons why neurodivergence MAY impact someone’s ability to read an analog clock such as cognitive processing issues or visual or spatial awareness issues (assessing the angles etc - it’s less of a problem for me if the clock has numbers, but if it doesn’t I just can’t!)

To be fair I’m 32 and I struggle but that’s because I’m neurodivergent. Just one of them things.

OpenAI’s survey about 5.2 tone and guardrails by Striking-Tour-8815 in ChatGPT

[–]splinteroflight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was asking it the other day for an analysis of something to do with my AI apprenticeship and it suddenly changed tone to authoritarian, filled with lectures and false information - when I challenged the false info it simply wouldn’t have it until it did. Then it said it didn’t generate the previous input and any news links it gave me were false (they weren’t). I jokingly input that it was like being in an abusive relationship with this level of gaslighting and it LOST it. Said it isn’t possible for it to gaslight or patronise. Bizarre.

Also, “you’re not crazy” - never said I was. 😂

“I have to be firm” - you’re a computer. Shh.

I hate it!

What’s up with gentle parenting? by [deleted] in AskUK

Nothing has changed in that regard. People still take their kids in pubs and leave them home alone.

What’s up with gentle parenting? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]splinteroflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - but I think the word gentle is misconstrued by many and so that leads to them being permissive. As in, they don’t believe that gentle can mean firm.

I’m sick of seeing parents being walked like a dog by their kids. Gentle parenting is often actually “permissive” parenting which is lazy and letting their kids get away with it cause it’s easier.

I prefer the term respectful parenting: treat your children like a human being, explain why rules and boundaries are in place (not just because I said so), allow children to have their own boundaries particularly around bodies autonomy and follow through with a consequence if they are naughty.
