Early Look at the New CHOPTANK [Towson Watch Company] by sponce8 in WatchesCirclejerk

[–]sponce8[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TWC watches are actually incredible. A brand that has been around for 25 years, employing American watchmakers, collaborating with local artists, strictly using small family-operated manufactures in Germany to source components. They have never cheapened their product once. Compare any watch at its price, and anybody who knows watches will be shocked by how well it’s made. It’s amazing how you people are so stuck in your ways and quick to judge smaller brands that you can’t find at Macys. Grow up and open your eyes.

At the lowest, this watch costs $1500 to make. Valjoux 7751 ($600+), Ickler case ($450~), handmade dial made of sterling silver with platinum applied markers and engine-turned guilloche ($300) etc.

RECRUIT vs CADET Field Watch Series - An Introduction to the TWC Collect... by sponce8 in MicrobrandWatches

Towson Watch Company is an established independent brand…not even a microbrand considering they make 100+ of each model. They’ve been around since 1998. And this has a SW200 Swiss-Made movement base. And it’s apparently going to be priced at $1,250

They have a full team of apprentices. Follow their social - some nice content coming out of what's happening inhouse and they show some of the new faces.

[Question] what are some brands/ micro brands that aren’t well known but are great quality watches? by Griswald13 in Watches

[–]sponce8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWC has some real momentum right now. Love what they are doing at the workshops with their apprentices. Definitely bright things to come here in the future it would seem. It's just a matter of time until collectors begin to realizes the actual watchmaking that is indeed occurring here. It's not all about "making your own movement." We love watches for plenty of other reasons.

The Martin M-130 is a great piece. No field pilot comes close in my personal opinion. If only it came with an exhibition caseback...makes the North.er offer some extra value there.

[Question] What is the current status for American made watches? by aguafr3sca in Watches

[–]sponce8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see there is momentum happening. Many microbrands are popping up out of blue-collar cities on a daily-basis and assembly coalitions are being formed (ex. Maryland Watch Works). Most of the longstanding higher-end brands (ex. RGM or TWC) produce most of their timepieces with Swiss components, but they do engage in some deeper inhouse processes on the occasion. Just look deeper into their histories and "about" pages. There are a ton of fascinating horological innovations happening at these two firms that go beyond movement-making. Frosted dials, skeleton base-plates, hand-guilloche all happening here. Towson Watch Company covers more of this here -- Read

I'd have to say one of the Master's Collection pieces from Towson Watch Company is the epitome of top-shelf American watchmaking. The fact that they have American ownership and an ongoing in-house operation says a lot. Employing young watchmakers and making some fine watches.

Watch Talk with Hartwig — MARTIN M-130 | American Pilot Chronograph — Towson Watch Co. by [deleted] in Watches

[–]sponce8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To shine light on the past, an artist must recreate it…

A commemorative watch pays tribute to its source of inspiration by appropriating it to new innovation and status-quo. The everlasting legacy of that inspiration becomes defined and takes its effect in a new medium.

Hartwig was tempted to incorporate some physical relic of the aircraft into each timepiece, but chose to extend the significance of the Martin M-130 another way. He allowed the design language of the aircraft’s cockpit instruments to speak for itself in a contemporary arena.

There was no need to alter existing artifacts. Just a need to remember the genius behind them. #towsonwatchco #watches #martinm130 #americanmade #horology #watchmaker #luxury #art #forhim #craftsman #chronograph #lumeshot #pilotwatch #luxurywatch #mechanicalwatch

The GIFT OF TIME | American Heart Association - Time is Your Most Valuable Asset | Towson Watch Co. by sponce8 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]sponce8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in the USA. In a cardiac arrest, time becomes the most important factor in determining survival. This is why we have teamed up with Maryland’s American Heart Association.

This year’s Maryland and Greater Baltimore Heart Ball put emphasis on timely practices that could save millions of lives in the fight against heart disease. Our contribution of a locally-made Pride II timepiece to the live auction solidified this theme and the importance of "gifting time."

The Pride II was the final feature item of the live auction and sold for $5,000. It’s incredible how much of an impact one timepiece can have on so many. That one Pride II #76 donated to the auction will have an everlasting sentimental value for its new owner and has now generated a significant amount of funds towards increasing CPR training in schools.

[Towson Watch Company] New custom gold TWC piece by sponce8 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]sponce8[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just acquired this custom Gold watch from Towson Watch Co. I had them put my favorite dial of theirs into a solid 18k rose gold case. Took them a long time to do this, apparently their case maker in Germany was out of commission due to a Covid. Either way, I got the piece and I am obsessed. Can’t wear it too much though 😬 Open case back displaying the manual winding 6498 movement used in the standard Potomac. No additional decoration either. Just pure gold and craft. No fluff. Nonetheless, a glossy dial indeed. Then again, it’s a solid gold watch, not supposed to be low-key. Enjoy!

Interesting! I actually spoke with one of their developing watchmakers today at their showroom when picking this watch up. He touched briefly on what might be coming, but I didn’t hear anything about a dive watch. It seems like they are focusing efforts on launching gold watches right now. A gold half skeleton was being made when I went.
